The After School Director is responsible for planning and implementing Summit Montessori School’s
After School Program. The After School program should be an enriching extension of the school day
and a reflection of the Montessori philosophy and mission of the school.
The After School Director’s responsibilities include:
Develops age appropriate curriculum and activities
Supervises and evaluates After School staff including teachers and assistant teachers
Seeks candidates for after school positions
Schedules interviews
Interviews candidates along with the Head of School
Checks references
Schedules substitutes as needed, with support of Office Coordinator
Meets with Head of School weekly
Ensures EEC compliance
Tracks and facilitates fulfillment of professional development requirements
Performs fire drills as regulations require
Manages budget
Meets with Director of Finance and Operations regularly
Collaborates with Director of Finance and Operations to build budget
Orders supplies
Reviews budget versus actual reports on a quarterly basis and notifies Director of Finance and
Operations of additional funding needs
Maintains close communications with Summit Montessori faculty and administration
Participates in professional development in-service days
Attends monthly full faculty staff meetings
Supports the core values of Summit Montessori School, including dedication to the School's DEI
(Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives
Responsible for timely, orderly, and accurate paperwork

Maintains a clean, well-organized, and orderly environment for the After School Program
Provides a healthy snack each day
Secures building each evening
Keypads on night code setting
Basement and exit doors locked
Set alarm if necessary
The After School Director is responsible for inventorying and ordering materials to support the
program. We expect the After School Director to be involved in the school community and act as a
role model for the children both in an out of school. She/he is expected to attend all relevant staff
and level meetings to be determined in consultation with the Head of School.
The After School Director should have a background in education and child care. A Bachelor’s Degree
in education or related field preferred. Additional training in the Montessori approach is highly
desirable. EEC certification as Director I is required.
Summit, a 27-year-old school, is housed in an historic Victorian building in a wooded neighborhood in
Framingham. The school recently expanded its campus to accommodate a growing Beginners
program and to add community space. The school currently enrolls 116 students, ages 18 months-12
years. Summit holds accreditations from the American Montessori Society and the Association of
Independent Schools of New England.
