The part time After School Wellness Educator (varied weekdays 2:00 – 5:00pm) at the MetroWest YMCA will engage students enrolled in the 21st century afterschool program. Educators will facilitate project-based learning activities focused on nutrition, culinary exploration, and physical activities. This position will promote social emotional learning and will provides a quality experience to children and their families in accordance with the MetroWest YMCA philosophy, policies, and practices. Pay $16.00 - $20.00 per hour based upon experience! Equal Opportunity Employer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under the supervision of the Director of Nutrition Education:
1. Engage, lead, and supervise a group of children and teens using positive guidance and support.
2. Implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA priorities in wellness.
3. Assist with development of curriculum based on cultural, behavioral, and skill set of participants.
4. Must be able to promote team building, demonstrate critical thinking, and display conflict resolution skills.
5. Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
6. Attend staff meetings and participate in required training in accordance with individual professional development plan and EEC regulations.
7. Serve as a role model for staff and students through professionalism, positive attitude, compassion, and leadership.
8. Act as a liaison between the MetroWest YMCA and Framingham Public Schools partnership to fulfill program and partnership goals.
9. Follow YMCA, EEC, and FPS policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
10. Maintain positive relations with children, families, host school personnel, and other staff. Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
11. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
2. Previous experience working with children preferably in a structured setting
3. Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: education, nutrition, psychology, recreational games, arts and crafts, etc.
4. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
5. Driver’s license with satisfactory driving record and access to personal vehicle for transporting materials to six local School’s Out sites.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.
