    Position Title: Public Relations Specialist

    Purpose of Position: The Public Relations Specialist is a full-time position. The Public Relations Specialist is responsible for gathering and producing information from/for various communications for Summit Hill School District 161.
    Position Responsibilities:
    • Actively monitor and integrate all forms of social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, our SHSD161 app, newsletters, podcasts, etc.) into a consistent, coordinated, positive message for stakeholders in SHSD161 and beyond.
    • Support communication initiatives by generating publicity and general awareness efforts, raising the profile of SHSD161 through a wide variety of media, including local publications, websites, newsletters, social media posts, and more.
    • Assist in the editing brochures, handbooks, and other written SHSD161 documents.
    • Assist the Administrative Council with developing and promoting each building and the District by tracking teacher article submissions and ensuring equal representation of all buildings and grade levels.
    • Serve as a community liaison to outside groups working on collaborative projects that have similar missions (library, park district, village, etc.) Develop, nurture, and maintain these relationships for the benefit of the communities we serve.
    • Seek opportunities for partnerships, sponsoring, advertising, including helping SHEF, our Booster Clubs, and SCO’s
    • Create content across various platforms, including website, app, social media, direct mail, newsletters, and more in a creative and engaging manner.
    • Arranging, promoting, and attending events for staff, students, and the community.
    • Attending Board of Education Meetings and generate Board Briefs as a result.
    • Develop communications and programming for new families to the District.
    • Other duties as needed and assigned.
    Position Organizational Relationships:
    • Is under the direction of the Superintendent; performance is appraised annually.
    • Works closely with the Administrative Council.
    • Not an administrative position.
    Terms of Employment:
    • Employed to work the full twelve-month work year.
    • Salary and benefits to be established annually by the Board of Education.
    Position Holder Qualifications:
    • Previous experience within a school system is preferred.
    • Knowledge of HTML/CSS, web technologies, and social media platforms.
    • Adept at using Adobe, Microsoft Applications, and Apple Applications (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc.).
    • Ability to take initiative, work independently and be flexible.
    • Ability to manage and lead projects from development through completion.
    • Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with members of the staff, community, and local media.
    • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, including knowledge of Associated Press writing style.
    • Demonstrate proficient use of the English language in writing and oral forms.
    • Demonstrate a willingness to learn new duties and technology skills as required.
    • Experience with various digital media, including still photography, videography and graphic design using Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
    • Ability to maintain confidential information while demonstrating ethical and professional conduct at all times. A working knowledge of community (people and resources) is desirable.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time sensitive deadlines.
    • Is pleasant, positive, and able to contribute to a productive work environment.
    Education:
    • High School Diploma required
    • Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, journalism, communications, or English preferred.
