Job Description

Payroll Specialist

Starting pay ranges $22-$28/hr DOE

This position reports out of the Sacramento corporate office and will be eligible for a hybrid work-from-home schedule.

The Payroll Specialist is a critical member of the Payroll team and is responsible for maintaining payroll information by collecting and entering all data necessary to process end to end payroll including but not limited to commissions, hourly, salaried, and variable compensation for a multi-state company. A successful Payroll Specialist will have an eye for detail, an ability to analyze data, and a desire to serve Summit's employees. 

What the Payroll Specialist is responsible for:

  • Input and process time sheet corrections.
  • Review and audit timekeeping records.
  • Complete audits of payroll information to ensure accuracy and compliance with government regulations. 
  • Process terminations and manual checks in accordance with State regulated timeframes.
  • Input, research, and report data from commission software system.
  • Respond to Team Member and Management inquires in a timely manner.
  • Process changes to payroll information such as compensation changes, position changes, etc.
  • Complete payroll reports for upper management.
  • Various payroll tasks and special projects as needed. 

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of current payroll or related experience.
  • Experience in multi-state payroll and variable compensation is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of payroll, payroll taxes, and timekeeping laws.
  • Proficiency in systems such as HRIS, payroll, or accounting software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including intermediate level skills in Excel.
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail, and customer service skills.
  • High school diploma or higher level of education.
