SUMMARY/PURPOSE

The Youth Career Pathways Manager is responsible for creating, implementing, and managing career pathway programs for high school youth and young adults at Summit Academy’s Best Buy Teen Tech Center. The individual will focus on technology-reliant career pathways providing learners with the opportunity for career exploration, hands-on learning experiences, and summer internships to drive career interest and build marketable skills, incorporating micro-credentials and digital badges to program offerings. The Career Pathways Manager is intentional in establishing and creating linkages leading to interest in college and careers, and will partner with Summit’s training managers to develop orientations and micro-courses in alignment with Summit’s existing training programs. The Career Pathways Manager has experience in program design leading with outcomes, excels in customer-service interfacing with employer partners and industry volunteers, and has exceptional follow-through skills. This individual will report to the Director of Education and Training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Duties and Responsibilities:

Career-focused program design and development

 Design, develop, and implement career-focused programming, with emphasis on technology-reliant careers, engaging high school youth in career exploration, hands-on learning experiences, and mastery of content.

 Develop project-based curriculum, integrating technical and foundational skills (“soft” skills) with clear documentation of learning outcomes. Maximize integration with Summit Academy’s training offerings.

 Create programming and workshops with high engagement and participation of employer partners and volunteers to ensure content is relevant, up-to-date, and maximizes real-world experiences.

 Implement a paid summer internship program, identify existing summer internship programs to maximize paid opportunities, and manage the internship experience with outstanding customer service to students and employers.

Outreach & Recruitment

 Drive outreach and recruitment activities, partnering with high schools, community-based organizations, to highlight program offerings for high school youth.

 Collaborate with marketing with guidance from the direct supervisor on all marketing collateral needed to support recruitment and program success, ensuring Summit Academy brand consistency and messaging.

 Host information and orientation sessions on-site at Summit Academy and schedule off-site sessions, increasing Summit’s visibility to high school youth in career pathway programming. Partner and coordinate resources with the Summit admissions/recruitment team.

Manage and lead career experiences collaborating with industry professionals

 Manage and coordinate employer site-visits, field trips, and employer guest-speakers to drive opportunity for students to learn from industry professionals. Be intentional around shaping high impact experiences.

 Drive and maximize exposure to technology-reliant industries and careers

 Oversee Individual Development Plans, coaching high school students to achieve their stated goals. Identify and suggest online resources, building a resource guide for students exploring college and careers

 Host job readiness experiences, manage mock interview jobs, and identify opportunities for high school youth to engage in college and career fairs.

Program Management

 Management of student data, tracking attendance, and monitoring program and student outcomes.

 Track student career pathway data, working with the evaluation team to assess micro-credential attainment,

 Ensure compliance, reporting on program performance housed at Summit’s Best Buy Teen Tech Center.

 Implement continuous improvement measures to ensure student success from first point of contact to exit.

 Supervise career pathway program staff, ensuring all staff deliver student-centered programming with high degree of customer service orientation

 Identify and recommend professional development opportunities for staff with guidance from the direct supervisor

 Collaborate with the evaluation team to implement surveys to students and employers to ensure feedback is heard,

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 Demonstrated ability to partner with industry professionals and recruit employer and college volunteers

 Ability to work a variety of shifts as needed, including weekday evenings and weekends

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates from an office at Summit Academy OIC. The person in this role will be expected to attend meetings and events off-site.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment, which would require the ability to open filing cabinets, use keyboarding skills, and bend or stand as necessary. This position will also require lifting of heavier materials as related to the monthly events and transporting materials from one location to another. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3 years of experience in program design, curriculum development, out-of-school time programming, in high school settings or organizations working directly with high school young adults.
  • Experience working with diverse youth.
  • Tech-savvy with excellent knowledge in software programs, general tech problem resolution, and high interest in technology as a creative and empowering tool
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with industry professionals and recruit employer and college volunteers

STEM knowledge and experience

Experience working with diverse populations
