Summary/Purpose
The Financial Services Instructor facilitates meaningful learning of the course competencies in the curriculum and proactively supports all facets of the learning environment. The Financial Services Instructor is responsible for teaching various classes in our Financial Services program, including but not limited to, finance, securities, mortgages, and insurance. The Financial Services Instructor will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of curriculum on campus and in a LMS. This position continuously works to ensure Summit’s mission to prepare students for living wage jobs.
Essential Functions

- Develops and designs curriculum specific to the core competencies of Summit Academy’s Financial Services certificate program.
- Teaches students in a competency-based format through lectures, demonstration, learning centered instruction, and field trips.
- Manages the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school/campus academic and attendance policies.
- Contributes to a learning culture by participating on curriculum and system task forces, supporting local campus events such as orientation and graduation and participating in various other workshops and meetings.
- Plans appropriate differentiated strategies to address individual learning needs and styles of a diverse group of adult students.
- Regularly uses multiple forms of assessment to determine grades in accordance with established standards and criteria.
- Models learning and behavior consistent with expectations for students.
- Teaches pro-social behavioral patterns conducive to success in the financial services industry; for example: safety, ethics, employability and related skills.
- Relates professional/life/industry experience to learning by the continuation of professional/technical skills development, the introduction of industry perspective into courses and the active awareness of professional/industry trends and opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of finance essentials
- Ability to teach people of various abilities and diverse backgrounds.
- Strong classroom management skills
- Excellent communication skills: written, oral, interpersonal and presentation.
- Strong decision making, problem solving, time management and stress management skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Minimum intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong knowledge of mortgage loan processing, insurance, and/or industry-related customer service practices

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional school setting which requires instructors to maintain professional appearance and attitude. The work environment is fast paced and requires time management and prioritization of job duties.
Physical Demands
This job requires the employee to stand for significant periods of time while instructing. In order to perform the necessary duties, the instructor must be able to hear and speak. This job requires 75% time instructing and moving and 25% sitting and doing paperwork. Instructor should be able to lift and files.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position is full time and on campus. The hours are 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday.
Travel
This position does not require travel.
Required Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree in a business or finance related field.
- 1-2 years relevant field experience
Preferred Education & Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in a business or finance related field
- More than 2 years teaching experience
- Experience with teaching adults
- Online teaching experience preferred
