Job Title: Lead Advocate Department: Human Services Reports To: Shelter Director FLSA Status: Non-exempt Hours: Full Time Location: Sulzbacher Village Summary The role of the Lead Advocate in the homeless shelter environment is to facilitate the safe and smooth operation of the shelter’s daily activities. This position requires a caring individual with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with residents and staff members in difficult situations. This position requires advanced computer skills and a thorough understanding of Shelter and Human Services policies and procedures. As one of the resident’s most personal and direct staff contact, the Lead Advocate interacts with residents and guests in a way that fosters health, mutual respect, clear communication, and positive self-regard. Supervisory Responsibilities This job has operational supervisory responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Supervises and evaluates the operational direction of team members of the assigned shift
Acts as a shelter manager while on duty (i.e., is ultimately responsible for troubleshooting any problem that may arise and coordinating a resolution with the other shelter teams)
Cultivate a working relationship between the Shelter Services Team and the other shelter Teams including Social Services, Food Services, Health Services, and Maintenance
Compile monthly reports
Maintain the Client Track program HMIS system
Supervise receipt and distribution of all donations
Maintain high level of communication regarding policies, regulations, and ongoing events by conducting meetings, writing in the daily log, distributing memos, and utilizing the voice mail system
Coordinate the transportation needs of the residents of the shelter
Maintain inventory of necessary supplies
Assist volunteer meal groups when necessary
Participate in the work of at least one client centered team
Other duties as specified by Director of Shelter Operations
Resident, Guest and Internal Customer Focus The Lead Advocate is sensitive to emotional, spiritual and practical needs of resident, families, guests and staff members in all interactions. Provides positive feedback and comments about the quality of work and effort that have been offered by residents, families and coworkers. Adjusts priorities and schedules to meet specific customer needs. Reports and/or corrects problems related to safety, cleanliness and comfort of resident and work areas. Universal Precautions and Infection Control techniques are followed. Understands own role facility safety plans and procedures related to fire, weather and other disasters is demonstrated. Always strives to ensure best possible outcome for each resident. Education and/or Experience
AA degree, High School Diploma or relevant experience
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
CPR certification
Competent with Word Perfect and Excel and other client related programs used at the center
Ability to train and motivate Resident Advisors as well as complete all administrative functions of the position
Physical/Mental Demands and Working Conditions
Valid Florida driver’s license
If driving a company vehicle on work-related business, must be 21 years of age and will require an acceptable annual Motor Vehicle Record check
Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening
Physically able to work in a fast paced, multitasked environment
