Sugar Cane Growers Cooperative of Florida is Hiring a Chemical Analyst I Near Belle, FL

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for performing chemical analyses of materials and products to ensure compliance with quality standards. Responsible for use of a variety of analytical techniques, including wet chemistry, spectroscopy, and chromatography; Write reports and maintain records of findings. Assure the validity of results of the laboratory processes by maintaining the equipment in optimal condition and improving the procedures done in the laboratory. Supervise up to 13 individuals during crop season.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
:

  • Study all the procedures done in the laboratory and provide improvements through research. Review and update SOP’s when necessary.
  • Coordinate maintenance of laboratory equipment with providers.
  • Weekly calibrations/verifications of balances, refractometers, PH/conductivity meter, NIR, oven
  • Create calibration curves for dextran and NIR. Knowledge of ISO 17025 and ability to apply its standards in the sugar industry.
  • Experience following ICUMSA methods.
  • Familiarity with OPUS Spectroscopy Software and the ability to perform multivariable calibrations.
  • Deep knowledge in analytical chemistry, including gravimetric and volumetric analysis, and spectroscopy, with a focus on FT-NIR and HPLC.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to carry out and present research projects.
  • Support to do technical laboratory reports.
  • Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.


Must also be able to cover Laboratory Analyst I, II & II:

  • Analysis of dextran, starch, pol, TSS, COD, pH, color, moisture, crystal size, ash, inverted sugars, reducing sugars, spindle and refract brix, preparation of solutions and filter aid, fiber, sediment, P.I, purity of NaOH, CaO available in lime, acid neutralization and lime test.

:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
  • Ability to work in a cleanroom environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Proficiency using a refractometer, HPLC, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, polarimeter, pH meter and NIR spectrophotometer
  • Extensive knowledge in chemistry
  • Bilingual English and Spanish, preferred.


LICENSES REQUIRED
: Regular Class E Driver’s license.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or foreign equivalent in Chemistry or related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in the Chemical Engineering field.
  • Knowledge in administration and management of analysis and testing laboratories, technology management, quality management systems.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • 40 hours per week, 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday - Friday
  • Sitting, Walking, Standing, Kneeling, Crawling, Climbing, and Reaching
  • Lifting occasionally up to 25 pounds.
