Suffolk University is Hiring an Assistant Director Orientation, New Student & Family Programs Near Boston, MA

Supports all new student and family initiatives which help ensure a successful transition, engagement and retention with the Suffolk community. Specific responsibilities include directing, planning, implementing, coordinating, and assessing the new student/family orientation program, services, communication, registration system and processes as well as actively support campus student success, transition, and retention efforts.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for promoting, implementing, managing, and assessing New Student and Transfer Student Orientation for all new freshmen and transfer students during summer, fall, and winter programs.

Oversee system for registering students, family members and their guests for an orientation session, producing rosters and reports, maintaining the online reservations system, and responding to student and family member questions, concerns, and special need requests.

Direct supervision of the Orientation student staff by coordinating the selection process, developing and implementing training and mentoring programs, monitoring and evaluating performance, and providing coaching and feedback.

Collaborate with Enrollment Management on yield and melt efforts for the incoming class

Collaborate with Student Affairs to develop year-long retention focused programming.

Serve on various Student Affairs committees to support campus activities and professional development. Assist in the planning and implementation of Family Weekend in collaboration with campus partners.

Work collaboratively with campus stakeholders coordinating various constituency-based programs such as Undergraduate Academic Advising, Placement Exams, Honors Programs, and International Student Orientation.

Requirements/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration or related field ispreferred.
  • 1-2 years of previous professional experience with new student programs, new student orientation,academic advising, student affairs or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, implementation, and assessment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong professional and ethical standards on which to serve as a role model to a diverse studentconstituency. Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fastpaced environment, including ability to work nights andweekends as necessary.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organization, management, and platform skills; an ability to oversee awide variety of activities; ability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
