Suffolk County Department of Health Services, Division of Community Mental Hygiene Services is seeking contract Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners work in our Suffolk County correctional facilities.

This is an unique opportunity in behavioral health -Psychiatric Forensic settings.

Responsibilities and Duties

Work includes all aspects of psychiatric care, including but not limited to:

• Complete psychiatric assessments of patients, including mental status examinations, to determine diagnoses, assess service needs, and prescribe psychotropic medication as appropriate;
• Provide psychotropic medication management to existing patients;
• Provide crisis intervention services as needed, inclusive of assessing patients for psychiatric hospitalization due exacerbated symptoms of acute or chronic mental illness;
• Assess patients for placement on suicide watch as well as for removal from suicide watch and or any alternative housing environments; asses on unit and in BHU office as appropriate
• Participate as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team; participate in the development of the patient’s individualized treatment plan;
• Provide consultation/education to other staff as appropriate;
• Consult with community organizations and other collaterals concerning patient care;
• Performing timely and complete clinical documentation including evaluations, progress notes, etc. utilizing the electronic medical record and related record keeping systems.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidate must have graduated from a college with a federally-authorized accreditation or registration by NY State with a Master's Degree in Nursing with a specialization in psychiatry, and a minimum of:

(1) year of clinical practice as a certified nurse practitioner in psychiatry

• All candidates must complete pre-employment background checks and credentialing.

Note: Weekend hours are preferred.

Pay: $110.00 - $140.00 per hour
