Due to our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and growth-oriented person to join our team as the Vice President of People Success & Safety at our Columbus, MN headquarters. A bit about who we’re seeking:

  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in a progressive Human Resources position with experience across a variety of HR / People functions
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience leading or managing teams with a focus on goals and execution, as well individual team member development
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including conflict management, critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence and leadership development
  • Knowledge of a broad range of human resource strategies and practices. Strong experience in compensation planning, benefits planning, and org design within a rapidly scaling environment and M&A
  • Strong knowledge of employment law; up-to-date on the changing HR/legal landscape
  • Ability to drive a culture of diversity, inclusivity, collaboration and teamwork throughout the entire employee life cycle
  • Experience analyzing data to guide strategic employment planning with a focus on sourcing and retaining talent, as well as adhering to established budgets
  • Executive presence and ability to influence and partner with leadership team
  • Significant employee and organizational development experience
  • Leads change management efforts in processes, organization, and talent management while empowering and influencing throughout the company
  • Ensures confidentiality in employee matters and in the protection of employee data
  • Basic experience with company safety programs and compliance
  • A bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, business or related area; relevant work experience may be a substitute

Key Responsibilities:

Position is full time with flexible hours. Overnight and out-state travel is required occasionally (expected to be 10-12 days per year). Position is exempt and reports directly to the President:

  • Strategic advisor to executive management on key organizational and people issues
  • Analyze, prepare and present meaningful metrics to executive management
  • Ensure The Street Smart Way is ingrained throughout the company
  • Manage employee experience, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, upskilling, coaching, and terminating employees
  • Develop training materials and performance management programs to ensure employee execution, development and growth
  • Create a compensation strategy for all employees based on market research and pay surveys; keeps the strategy up to date while improving our cost to deliver Street Smart’s value proposition
  • Create a benefits strategy, focusing on competitive yet cost-effective options
  • Create and implement policies and procedures supporting business initiatives, driving clarity of expectations for employees, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws
  • Ensure the organization's compliance with local, state and federal regulations. (Including compliance with DOT prevailing wages and safety regulations)
  • Improve job descriptions matching our future while assuring they are compliant with all local, state and federal regulations
  • Provide guidance and coaching to manager/supervisors regarding policies, employee performance management, corrective action plans, conflict resolution and compliance
  • Investigate employee issues and conflicts and bring them to resolution, ensuring compliance with employment law
  • Partner with leadership team as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning
  • Assist in planning and organizing company work events
  • Manage HR vendor relationships

Safety:

  • Work with 3rd party vendors to develop safety training programs for employees; institute tracking mechanisms to ensure training compliance and completion
  • Conduct safety audits at all Street Smart Locations
  • Research, evaluate, assess and alter safety procedures and policies
  • Analyze accident reports and evaluate injury case studies based on available facts
  • Build a culture of safety awareness and company pride in safe execution on roadways
