Job Purpose

To provide construction inspection services to Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) District 6

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor Construction Contractor progress on various SHA projects.
  • Complete Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs) to document construction progress.
  • Confirm contractor quantities for installed work.
  • Communicate individual project progress to SHA personnel
  • Assist with approval processes necessary for construction contractor payments.
  • Coordinate activities between the Construction contractor and SHA.
  • Work within the SHA eConstruction system.
Requirements

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of construction inspection related experience
  • Knowledge of State if Maryland regulations
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with clients and co-workers
  • Valid Driver's License

Desired Qualifications

  • General experience with environmental issues
  • Experience with roadway and drainage construction projects
  • Experience with permitting compliance
  • Experience with project documentation and MSHA systems
  • A proven record of working with construction contractors and government agencies
  • Certifications: Maintenance of Traffic, Green Card, Yellow Card, MARTCP
  • Scheduling and cost estimating experience

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
  • Must be able to traverse various types of terrain for extended periods of time
  • Physical ability to perform outdoor field work and in unpleasant field conditions
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
