Strange Delight is a Nola-inspired oyster bar set to open in the vibrant neighborhood of Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Our goals are not just about serving responsibly sourced seafood in new and novel ways but also about sustaining and supporting our community, our vendors, and our team to the best of our ability. We aim to create a space that is, simply put, fun and different from our peers.

Location: We are conveniently located in Fort Greene on Lafayette Ave, just steps away from the 2,3,4,5,B,D,N,Q,R,W,G,C trains and plenty of other public transportation options.

Rate of Pay: $16/hr plus tips

General Hours: Wed-Sun 3pm-12am

Server Responsibilities Include:

• Positive attitude, ability to work as a team member. Must be open to constructive criticism and other opportunities to learn and improve. Candidates must be receptive to professional feedback aimed to constructively and positively improve performance and behavior.
• Can work 6-9hr shifts, lift up to 50lbs
• Multitasking
• Money management: accurately accounts for all sales, discounts, and promotions in the POS system according to company cash handling procedures: handle cash, credit, and debit card transactions; maintain an accurate cash drawer throughout the shift and be able to account for any and all discrepancies in the final drawer tally; counting cash drawers pre and post shift
• Opening & closing sidework
• Understanding food and beverage menus, including ingredients, substitution options, and allergens; immediately alerting management and the kitchen to any allergies or dietary restrictions
• Following steps of service for guest interactions
• Knowledge of Cajun/Creole cuisine is a plus
• Knowledge of Toast is a plus

Busser & Barback Responsibilities Include:

• Glassware Prep, garnish stock
• Water Service
• Bar and Dining Room cleanliness: clearing and resetting bar top and tables, pre-bussing between courses, crumbing bar after courses
• Understanding of workplace safety protocol, NYC DOH Food Handling is a plus
• Able to clean, sanitize, and work cleanly in an open kitchen environment that serves raw food
• Checking and replacing garbages
• Checking and replacing dirty bus tubs
• Bringing dirty glassware to dish pit and/or bar

Bar Responsibilities Include:

• Comprehensive knowledge of cocktail recipes (house and classic), major spirit categories, and drink making techniques
• Knowledge of wine styles and grape varieties, along w pairing suggestions
• Must have strong attention to detail
• Bar Prep
• Must have at least 4 years bartending experience
• Must be friendly, outgoing, approachable, willing to teach, willing to learn

Food Runner Responsibilities Include:

• Working closely with the KM & kitchen
• Ability to safely and quickly move throughout restaurant
• Delivering food to specific table and seat numbers
• Understanding the importance of not "auctioning off" food at tables or leaving food at the tables when guests aren't ready
• Drop Lines for each table
• Alerting any guests with allergies which items they cannot have
• Thorough knowledge of the menu, anticipate immediate needs (extra sauce, etc) after each course is dropped
• Bi-lingual preferred

Physical Requirements:

• The capability to meet the physical and scheduling demand of the position, including walking, standing, or lifting heavy items for extended periods, and working nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to lift or carry items weighing 10-30 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on a regular or occasional basis.
• Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the property. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
• Climbing steps regularly.
• Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
