Position Title: Substitute/Aide 

Reports to: Director of Teaching and Learning 

Salary: $7700 for Summer session 

Organization Overview

The Steppingstone Foundation prepares students from marginalized communities to access, navigate, and graduate from college through two initiatives, the Steppingstone Scholars Program and the National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA). The Steppingstone Scholars Program is a direct-service program in Boston that provides academic, social-emotional, and college-readiness services to students, called Scholars, beginning as early as fifth grade and continuing all the way through college graduation. The Steppingstone Scholars Program consists of five components: Admissions, the Academy, Middle School Success, High School Success, and College Success. NPEA connects the people, practices, and innovations for eliminating barriers to educational access, and college and career success for underserved students.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in faculty orientation. Tentative dates: June 25-27 2024.
• Commit to teach in person throughout the entire summer session: July 1 - August 9 2024 (no class on July 4-5). Classes meet Monday through Friday and faculty hours are 7:45 am - 3:45 pm
• Attend weekly afternoon faculty meetings (Wednesdays until 5:00 pm) Serve as a substitute teacher for anyone who is absent. Lesson plans will be provided
• Share certain roles necessary for administering the summer session: 
• co-leading homeroom
• co-teaching a weekly elective class
• supervising study hall and tutoring students
• monitoring breakfast, lunch, recess, and/or dismissal

Requirements

Qualifications for Teaching with Steppingstone:

• Teaching experience, preferably with middle school students 
• An education-related degree, either completed or in progress
• Demonstrates commitment to educational equity and college access
• Demonstrates ability to be flexible and respond appropriately in a fast paced environment
• Excellent cross-cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations
• Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
• Excellent computer skills (experience with Google Classroom and Google Apps preferred)

All Steppingstone employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as defined by the CDC. This means that 14 days must have passed since they have completed a full regimen of vaccines authorized for use in Massachusetts (2 doses of either Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech, or 1 dose of Johnson & Johnson) and have received a booster dose.

All employees will be required to provide proof of their vaccination status within two weeks of hire date.

Transportation and Location: The Steppingstone summer session will be held at Milton Academy in Milton, MA. Faculty members are responsible for arranging their own transportation to Milton Academy. This position does not include housing. 

Application Process: Interested candidates are asked to submit a resume and thoughtful cover letter. Those invited to interview will be asked to deliver a 10-minute sample lesson and will be required to submit a list of three professional references. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom. Interviews and hiring will be conducted on a rolling basis.
