STEM Prep Academy is Hiring a School Climate Specialist [24'-25' School Year] Near Nashville, TN

The School Climate Specialist serves on a multi-disciplinary team to assess the culture and climate needs of the school community and create a responsive, culturally relevant implementation plan. He/she aligns social-emotional and behavioral intervention systems in collaboration with school leadership to create a positive learning environment and school culture. The School Climate Specialist provides supervision, support and professional development addressing classroom management, school climate topics and individual support to teachers through observation and feedback to improve individualized instruction. They also build strong relationships and provide support to students and families.

Required Qualifications:

  • Prior responsibilities in a school or institution supporting young adults
  • A demonstrated record of effectively leading other adults in creating change
  • Ability to hold adults accountable while building and maintaining relationships
  • Eagerness to resolve conflicts, not avoid them.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Anti Racism, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and a students first mindset
  • High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience as a teacher, supporting student outcomes that exceed district and state performance
  • Proven track record of family and community collaborations that drive strong student outcomes and results
  • Demonstrated results in building relationships across lines of differences and over language barriers. 
  • Knowledge of social emotional learning and CASEL Core Competencies
  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee students and families
Responsibilities:
  • Management of Culture
  • Implement school-wide positive behavioral supports in alignment with vision of the Principal and Dean of Students
  • Establish a visible and professional presence in school facilities and grounds to deter incidents and to detect situations requiring assistance
  • Engages with systems and procedures to cultivate a student culture grounded in STEM Prep’s core values of drive, integrity, collaboration, inquiry, and imagination. 
  • Collaborate with the school leadership team to oversee the referral of students requiring social-emotional and behavior support, timely implementation of interventions, the progress monitoring of students receiving interventions, and the evaluation of intervention effectiveness.
  • Motivates, encourages, and builds relationships with students in order to promote a warm and caring environment. 
  • Support the Dean of Students in building partnerships with external agencies and service providers to provide students with appropriate psychological, emotional, behavioral, and academic resources and supports. 
  • Facilitate discipline cases directed to school administration and work with families to ensure positive outcomes. 
  • Supports Dean of Students in planning and execution of students incentives calendar throughout the year. 
  • Plan, advertise, and execute culture events for students and staff alongside the Dean of Students.
  • Monitor after school detention or restorative room as requested
  • Setting School Expectations
  • Use a tone and volume that models a high standard for student and adult culture
  • Hold adults accountable through warm and demanding conversations 
  • Supports and delivers equity-driven and inclusive coaching of adult learners in alignment with the institutional mission, vision, and values
  • Facilitate pieces of staff professional development
  • Support professional development and teacher trainings in the areas of classroom management and culture-building.
  • Administrative Responsibilities 
  • Provide consultation to school staff on safety assessments, mental health crises, and accessing social service per the request of the Dean of Students or Principal
  • Document interventions provided and provide necessary reports on student progress.
  • Engage caregivers in the educational process, providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needs
  • Attends after school events and parent nights as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
