Magic Steel currently has a first shift opening for a Materials Planner at our Grand Rapids, MI location. A job description for this position is provided below.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Materials Planner applies suitable inventory to customer orders, concentrating on utilizing inventory as profitably as possible.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of the Materials Planner include but are not limited to the following:

• Ensures customer satisfaction and maximizes profitability in the application of inventory to open sales orders.
• Authorizes the conversion, re-handling, or inspection of specific inventory items, and generates production jobs.
• Ensures accuracy of inventory tags prior to generating job orders.
• Assists in identifying aged, distressed, or unusable inventory items for prompt disposition.
• Maintains records of all pre-cut material in inventory, and advises the sales group of changes.
• Communicates inventory deficiencies, issues or shortages to Purchasing.
• Reviews material status.
• Inspects material in-process and advises appropriate disposition as requested.
• Communicates with departments on order backlog and outlook.
• Reviews, evaluates and advises on customer specifications and changes.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• High School diploma or equivalent; Associates Degree with prior experience in steel industry preferred.
• Must possess excellent math and computer skills.
• Past experience with operating systems is a plus.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently and effectively problem-solve is required.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based, high-paced environment is required.
• Demonstrated strict attention to detail is required.
• Position requires occasional travel.
