Steel and Pipe Supply is Hiring a Transportation Manager Near Manhattan, KS

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership, working with a team of driver supervisors at the various locations.
  • Enforce safety regulations and ensure all drivers adhere to safety protocols.
  • Holding locations accountable for all compliance with all regulations.
  • Report any accidents, incidents, or safety violations promptly.
  • Maintain communication with supervisor, sales, and customers as required.
  • Assist various locations with equipment/maintenance challenges.
  • Oversee the proper recording of all daily records, HOS, DVIR, proof of deliveries and fuel receipts.
  • Fill in as needed at the various operations.
  • Assist in resolution for any delivery delays, vehicle breakdowns, or other logistical challenges.
  • Analyze key performance indicators to evaluate the efficiency of transportation operations.

PHYSICAL & WORK REQUIREMENTS

  • Physically able to spend time in the yard assisting drivers.
  • Extensive travel - up to 75%
  • Continuous communication with different departments and our transportation network.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, moderately stressful, constantly changing day-to-day work environment.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND, COMPETENCIES, & EXPERTISE

  • Proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role in the transportation industry.
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate a team.
  • Coaching and developing a team.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of tractor/trailer.
  • Knowledge of securing cargo using straps, chains, and other securing devices to prevent load-shift during transit.
  • Accountability
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Understanding of each state's load size and weight requirements.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good computer skills.

PREFERRED BACKGROUND, COMPETENCIES, & EXPERTISE:

  • Bachelor's degree in logistics or related field.
  • Previous experience in the flatbed industry.
  • Knowledge of steel/metals industry.

Pay and Benefits
Starting pay depending on experience.
Annual holiday bonus based on company performance.
401k retirement contribution matching - 50% company match up to 6% of your annual wages.
Company covers about 80% of the cost of medical insurance for you and your family.

Company covers 100% of the cost of short and long-term disability insurance.

Paid personal time available for use as it accrues (max of one week per year)
