Position Description

SALARY:
Starting Rate: $16.5123/hour
Grade 3, Non-Exempt Position, Non-Union

We are seeking individuals that are interested in working with jurors and expanding their knowledge of the court trial process. These part-time hourly positions are great for individuals who are looking to re-enter the workforce, retired or semi-retired individuals, or college students with flexible schedules. Candidates will be assigned an “on call” schedule and work hours will normally be daytime hours Monday-Friday. Ideal candidates for this role are those who are flexible and adaptable and are invested in providing dedicated public service in our community!
Position Objective
To provide general information and orientation to individuals serving on jury duty. This position is responsible for overseeing a jury panel from the time members report for duty until dismissed by the Court.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
These examples do not include all possible responsibilities in this position and do not limit the assignment of related duties to this classification.
1. Introduces jurors to court system and instructs them of court rules, procedures and appropriate standards.
2. Ensures jurors conform to the standards of courtroom demeanor.
3. Escorts and attends to the needs of jurors.
4. Acts as a liaison between the court and the jury.
5. Attends work in a regular and timely manner.
6. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Minimum Qualifications and Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Qualifications
In order to be considered for this position, applicants must possess the following:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must be available on an on-call basis
  • Must have experience using a personal computer
Preferred Experience Beyond Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in a courtroom setting
  • Public relations experience
  • Security experience
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of the Court process.
2. Knowledge of First Aid and CPR.
3. Ability to deal effectively with persons under adverse situations.
4. Ability to convey instructions related to courtroom procedures accurately and objectively.
5. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
The primary responsibilities for this position will be performed approximately 100% of the time indoors. Will have infrequent exposure to health hazards and accidents; requires a low level of physical effort. All employees are required to reside within the state of Minnesota.
Extent of Supervision or Guidance Provided
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Captain-Corrections.

Hours of Work
Variable, normally daytime hours. This is an hourly position not to exceed 728 hours per year.
