GSM Industrial, Inc is Hiring a Project Engineering Designer Near Lancaster, PA

Description

Develops, designs, and details mechanical products out of sheet metal, plate steel, pipe or tubing, structural steel and related materials. Creates detailed shop drawings and General Arrangement (GA) drawings of products, specifying dimensions, tolerances, fasteners and joining requirements, and other design and project related data.

The primary responsibility is to ensure that relevant project phases meet or exceed the required schedule, quality and budget for both the customer and GSM Industrial.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Adheres to the responsibilities and expectations defined in the GSM Industrial Project Chart.
  • Confers with GSM Industrial project personnel to establish and evaluate design concepts for customer-requested products.
  • Makes site visits, takes field measurements and creates sketches of ideas using drafting instruments and/or CAD software.
  • Presents designs to project stakeholders for approval and/or revision.
  • Computes mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery.
  • Prepares detailed working drawings of products including dimensions, fastening methods, functional relationships of components, and other design information using 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings and details them to shop standards.
  • Creates detailed part cut-lists and material requisition documents.
  • Manages purchasing process of materials and commercial items.
  • Programs parts for CNC applications and processing.
  • Provides suppliers, customers and project personnel with necessary drawings, specifications and information to fabricate product(s).
  • Participates in kick-off meetings as needed to understand project specifications and timeline, materials, scope of work and scheduling.
  • Performs scope definition and communicates status as it becomes available with project personnel.
  • Interacts with project personnel to ensure the job is planned and executed, on time and within budgeted/estimated hours.
  • Provides technical solutions and timely assistance to project personnel as needed.
  • Advises and assists in the creation of design standards and procedures.
  • May be required to perform other duties outlined in the Project Manger job description, including travel.

Additional Roles: Additional responsibilities are defined under the Account Manager and Project Manager Job Descriptions.

Success will be measured by:

  • Completion of deliverables according to plan (time and cost)
  • Successful design output (buildable, installable, meets customer requirements)
  • Accuracy of drawings, cut lists, PO’s, requisitions etc.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years’ post high school training and five years’ experience in a related field or equivalent training and experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and other applicable software programs
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles necessary to produce effective blueprints, drawings and models
  • Knowledge of the practical application of design concepts and materials to create various industrial products and systems
  • Knowledge of intermediate mathematical skills, arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and their applications
  • Ability to analyze concepts and perform field measurements to meet or exceed requirements of an effective design
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify opportunities and provide solutions with effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of sheet metal, plate steel, structural or vessel and pipe fabrication
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and material specifications
  • Project management, CAD and computer skills
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify opportunities and provide solutions with effective verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills

  • All types of measurement instruments.
  • Computer and office equipment and plotters, etc.
  • Fabrication processes, equipment and hand tools

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily a controlled office and periodic jobsite environment.

In a normal workday, the employee must be able to stand 1-4 hours

  • In a normal workday, the employee must be able to sit 7 hours

  • In a normal workday, the employee must be able to drive 1-4 hours
