Position: CNC Machine Operator

Reporting to: Machine Shop Supervisor

Location: Canton, MI 48188

Job type: Employee, Full time

Basic Responsibility The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for using computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines safely and accurately to produce high quality parts by programming these machines to perform a variety of functions. The right candidate will help to enhance the productivity of our organization by monitoring machine output and recommend continuous improvements in our machine shop processes.

Should demonstrate basic understanding of computer programming and CAD /CAM.

Key Functions:

Perform set-up and calibration procedures for the existing CNC machines in the machine shop by installing and adjusting tools, attachments, cams, gears, and stops.

Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters as well as interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) to determine product requirements.

Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces; adhering to internal procedures.

Maintains specifications by observing drilling and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.

Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.

Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.

Assembly cutting tool holders and position in machine spindles as specified using tools or insert cutting tools.

Confirms conformance of finished work to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gages, and micrometers.

Communicates actions, irregularities, and continuing needs to the Machine Shop Supervisor.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities thru Stauff University and attending different technical seminars and safety training.

General Requirements and Experience:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Proven experience as CNC Operator.

Skill in operating tooling as we as precision measurements tools.

Previous manufacturing or machine shop experience preferably in a high volume made to order manufacturing environment.

Previous exposure to lean manufacturing (Kaizen, 6S).

Ability to read and write English, solid math proficiency, and mechanical aptitude required.

Computer literacy with Microsoft Office Suite and highly proficient with excel.

Good organizational and communication skills; and be able to work with little direction.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time – Frequently.

Physically able to lift heavy objects up to 60 pounds – Occasionally.

Bending and twisting – Occasionally.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.10 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
