Position Type: Full-time position,40 hours per week, Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. Must be able to work some nights, weekends, and holidays.

The Bullock Texas State History Museum immerses visitors in Texas history and culture through a variety of exhibitions, films, and events serving over 500,000 visitors a year on-site and on-line. Position Summary:

The Museum Maintenance Supervisor reports to and works under the general supervision of the agency's Facilities Director with moderate latitude for the use of imitative and independent judgement. Performs complex managerial work administering the daily operations and activities of the Museum Maintenance department. Oversees the Museum's Maintenance staff, including scheduling and assigning work, requisitioning materials and supplies, and ensuring equipment reliability through a strong preventive maintenance program. Performs hands on maintenance work, technical diagnoses and troubleshooting as required. This individual must also be able to work as part of an interdisciplinary, results-driven team. Must be able to set priorities and be flexible. Displays excellent verbal and written communications skills and maintains a professional and respectful approach when interacting with other employees, visitors, and the public. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director.

*Work hours are based on the Museum's 360 day-per-year schedule and may include weekends, evenings and/or holidays, including on short notice. Must be able to work extended hours in order to be considered.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: For purposes of this agency's job descriptions, "essential job duties" are defined as assigned tasks that are critical or fundamental to the position and not marginal. · Oversees on-the-job training and regular supervision for all Museum Maintenance staff to ensure smooth daily operations, high work quality and ongoing productivity. Establishes and communicates performance standards and conducts timely and objective performance evaluations. Actively participates in the interview and staff selection process.

· Assists the Director of Facilities in conducting regular building and equipment inspections to identify maintenance trends and future requirements.

· Plans, assigns, and supervises the Museum Maintenance staff and regularly performs hands-on maintenance according to the division's work order system.

· Remains abreast and complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations, standards and emergency procedures including applicable OSHA, Agency, local, state, and federal security and safety rules, regulations, and established industry safety and security techniques and standards. Plans work with safety and security front of mind. Continuously assesses safety conditions to ensure individual and workplace safety and safety of visitors and staff. Promotes visitor safety and building security. Assists with building evacuation if necessary.

· Reviews and manages the Museum's preventive maintenance program to ensure proper care of the building and its equipment.

· Reviews all Construction Documents and proposed changes the Museum.

· Operates as Construction Liaison for all departments at the Museum.

· Provides reliable daily operational updates, building and personnel reports and offers effective solutions to Facilities Division operational situations at the Museum or elsewhere as assigned.

· Provides sound recommendations regarding options and demonstrates advanced technical skills and knowledge relative to all program areas.

· Requisitions for materials, supplies and/or equipment (correctly using the agency's purchasing system). Oversees efficient use of labor and materials. Performs inventory of supplies and/or equipment. Adheres to purchasing guidelines and ethical standards.

· Demonstrates sustained knowledge of building maintenance techniques, plumbing and heating systems, building sanitation, electrical systems, fire and safety regulations and procedures, grounds maintenance, painting and carpentry, as well as uniform building codes.

· Works with the Director of Facilities in revising and writing Facilities program guidelines, procedures, policies and rules. Provides technical expertise to the ongoing development of the Museum's Business Continuity Plan and process. Works collaboratively with the agency's Risk Manager to eliminate or mitigate the agency's risks as appropriate.

· Ensures that daily staffing is adequate to meet the agency's business needs at the Museum and plans staff schedules accordingly. Adjusts or modifies employee workloads as required and uses effective delegation techniques where appropriate. Provides staffing for events as needed and constructs a management plan for after hour emergency work.

· Works with colleagues from other divisions for the purpose of furthering the overall goals and mission of the State Preservation Board.

· Performs periodic building and equipment inspections as needed to ensure quality and safety.

· Performs all duties as assigned in a manner that promotes public confidence in the agency and its employees and in accordance with ethical standards.

· Regular attendance is an essential job duty for all SPB positions.

· Performs all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· This is not a sedentary position and requires the ability to walk throughout the Museum and Capitol Complex.

· Ability to work in extreme temperatures including hot and cold. Exposure to damp, wet or moist conditions and inclement weather is also required.

· Ability to perform visual inspections and manipulate equipment that may require fine motor skills coordination and/or eye-hand coordination.

· This position is mentally and physically demanding and requires the ability to perform hands-on skilled facilities and general maintenance duties; climb, pull, lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods of time, push, stretch, stoop, kneel, recline, bend, squat, and reach.

· Ability to communicate verbally and in writing on a variety of complex issues; and identify and direct effective solutions and outcomes.

· Must be able to independently prioritize, multi-task and effectively delegate work.

· Displays sounds judgment and effective interpersonal skills in communicating with internal and external customers, including building occupants, other agency staff and visitors to the Capitol Complex and Museum.

· Ability to work after regular business hours, or on-call, including weekends and holidays as needed, to ensure efficient and safe building services operations.

Required Education and Experience:

· Secondary or Trade School education or two-year College Degree.

· Five years of general maintenance experience, operations and/or facilities maintenance and construction work, including physical /central plant equipment and machinery, scheduling and supervision.

· Two years of supervisory and program administration experience.

· Background must demonstrate preventive maintenance experience and oversight.

Preferred Education and Experience:

· Four-year College Degree or Trade School completion.

· Prior experience performing complex plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical repairs .

· HVAC and electrical problem solving experience and knowledge with controls.

· Experience performing housekeeping coordination or housekeeping liaison duties.
