About the Team
The Fixed Income Strategies Group manages approximately 14 billion across the fixed income spectrum, in separate actively managed portfolios focused on rates, IG credit, Structured Products, High Yield credit, and Leveraged Loans. Each portfolio seeks income and capital appreciation using a disciplined, repeatable investment process tailored to its sector, which includes robust risk allocation and management. Within this structure, investment professionals are empowered to meaningfully influence portfolio outcomes.
The Leveraged Finance Team manages a 5.0 billion High Yield and a 2.0 billion Leveraged Loan portfolio(s), with each team member working across both. The portfolio(s) have access to a wide range of security types, including derivatives in credit, equity and rates space to pursue their return and risk targets. The team is currently seeking to add a Credit Analyst.
Position Overview
Essential activities:
  • Perform investment research inclusive of credit analysis, deal write-ups, and financial modeling.
  • Develop trade recommendation(s) across assigned coverage sector(s) based on fundamental and relative value analysis, and effectively communicate ideas to Team and Portfolio Manager.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the various macro factors that drive bond prices including economic data, interest rates, as well as currency and commodity impacts.
  • Establish working relationships and dialogue with sell-side analysts, company management, industry experts, rating agencies, and other SWIB investment professionals.
The ideal candidate:
  • Relevant leveraged finance investing experience in high yield bonds and leveraged loans.
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience as a buy-side or sell-side analyst specializing in high yield bonds and loans.
  • Energy and Healthcare sector coverage experience preferred but not required. Willingness to adapt to change. 
  • Ability to work effectively within a small team and in cross-functional collaborations across various SWIB investment teams. 
  • Ultimate team player with an entrepreneurial attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and dedicated work ethic.
  • Solid analytical, quantitative, and communication skills, both written and verbal.

The position requires U.S. work authorization.
Pursuant to our Hybrid Remote Work Policy, all staff have the flexibility to work remotely, but are required to have a weekly presence in our offices, the frequency of which is dependent on their distance from office. Staff are not required to reside locally; however, we offer relocation reimbursement to the Dane County area per our policy.
All SWIB employees are subject to SWIB’s Ethics Policy and Personal Trade Approvals Policy. These policies include restrictions on outside business activities and employment and have limits on personal trading.
