The employee in this position is responsible for identifying newly diagnosed cancer cases and abstracting data for a statewide population-based cancer registry in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, and established procedures. The employee will work with assigned hospitals and diagnostic/treatment facilities throughout the State and perform case finding activities via review of pathology reports, cytology reports. radiology reports, disease indices, and other reports or logs to ascertain reportable malignancies and certain benign tumors.
The employee will also be required to attain and maintain knowledge of cancer staging, coding and abstracting standards and requirements through participation in training provided by the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, the American Joint Commission on Cancer, and/or the National Cancer Registrars Association. Applicants must hold the Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) credential OR be eligible to take the CTR exam within two years of the date of employment.
Infrequent day/overnight travel will be required, and a state vehicle will be available for these required trips. Other duties as assigned. Located in Kanawha County.
Additional requirement for Bureau for Public Health, Office of Epidemiology and Prevention Services: Applicants must have minimum eligibility to obtain a CTR certification, which includes possessing an Associates Degree including 6 college credit hours in human anatomy and human physiology or having completed 60 hours of college level courses, including 6 college credit hours in human anatomy and human physiology.
