Deputy Chief Health Law Judge (WMS3)Center for Facilities, Risk, & AdjudicationOffice of ASU JudicialTumwater, WA(Flexible/Hybrid, Remote)DOH8011 The goal of the Department of Health is to safeguard and enhance the health of Washington State residents. The Center for Facilities, Risk, & Adjudication (CFRA) oversees adjudicative services, risk management, and facilities, aiming to identify and mitigate risks, ensure fair legal processes, and provide safe workspaces. The Adjudicative Service Office (ASO), comprising DOH law judges and staff, holds decision-making authority in administrative hearings across various health-related cases, ensuring consistency and due process. The Deputy Chief Health Law Judge (DCHLJ), reporting directly to the Chief Health Law Judge (CHLJ) within CFRA’s Adjudicative Services Office (ASO), leads ASO's operations. Responsibilities include overseeing ASO's daily efficiency, ensuring Health Law Judges (HLJs) demonstrate sound legal judgment, fairness, and due process in cases. The DCHLJ manages, supervises, mentors, and trains ASO's 5 HLJs, and collaborates with the CHLJ and Review Judges to ensure orders are legally and procedurally sound. In the absence of the CHLJ, the DCHLJ acts on their behalf with full authority. Additionally, the DCHLJ supports the ASO leadership team, develops agency-wide guidance and procedures, and engages in long-term strategic planning. Telework (mobile work) is currently expected. The incumbent may be required to conduct in-person hearings and attend in-person training and/or team-building activities as they arise. Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school.Licensed as an attorney in the State of Washington in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association.Five years of litigation and judicial experience.Two years of leadership and performance management experience.Two years’ experience with policy and performance measurement development.
