DNR manages over 2 million acres of forestland in Washington to generate revenue for trust beneficiaries. These sustainably managed lands directly benefit rural communities while providing clean water, climate mitigation, and other ecosystem services. The Assistant Division Manager for Product Sales oversees a staff of twelve professionals in our Olympia headquarters and coordinates with our six regions to ensure that we meet our sustainable harvest volumes while delivering operational excellence. To be successful at this position you not only need an understanding of the forest products business, but you also need to showcase outstanding leadership and customer service skills. This position will consistently represent the agency when speaking to purchasers and the general public and will have to be able to adapt to those audiences. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Responsibilities: Plan, lead and organize the work performed by the Timber Sales section of the Product Sales & Leasing Division.Maintain the highest standards of safety, personal/professional, and ethical conduct, and support the State’s goals for a diverse workforce.Strategic and tactical oversight of the timber sales program statewide, including preparation/presentation of sale proposals to the Board of Natural Resources (BNR);Tracking forest product market conditions/trends and developing strategies/standards/procedures to maximize revenue potential on forested State Trust Lands while meeting sustainable harvest targets and related Board and department objectives;Continually evaluating timber sales process/tools and working with program/region staff to adjust as necessary to improve operational excellence and minimize risks to trust assets;Creating and maintaining productive working relationships with internal program/region staff and external stakeholders including regulators, purchasers, other agencies, tribes, and others;As one of four members of the division’s leadership team responsible for setting program strategic direction, overseeing the implementation of program and department priorities, as well as identifying division and program challenges, and working with the leadership team, region, and other program staff to determine and implement solutions.
