The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking an Equipment Technician 1 to join Eastern Region’s Transportation Equipment Fund (TEF) organization. In this role, you will be responsible for utilizing pressure washers and other equipment to clean WSDOT vehicles and support equipment throughout Spokane County. This unique opportunity will support ER’s TEF organization in providing well maintained vehicles and equipment to customers who in turn may accomplish their services to the public in a safe, efficient, timely, and cost-effective manner.
What to Expect
The typical schedule is Monday-Thursday, 6:00am to 4:30pm, 40-hours per week. Work will take place primarily within WSDOT maintenance shed locations throughout Spokane County.
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Equipment Technician 1 will:

  • Pressure wash and clean a variety of vehicles and support equipment at the four Area-1 Maintenance Facilities, as well as equipment located at the main WSDOT campus.
  • Attend training and meetings as required.
  • Assist journey-level mechanics in performing preventive maintenance, service, and repairs to a wide variety of highway maintenance equipment, both in the shop and the field.
  • Generate and update work orders, and input preventive maintenance inspection data.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs to region fuel sites and maintain/clean fuel dispensing sites.
  • Pickup and deliver parts and supplies through the region.
  • Transfer equipment between the regional shop and vendor locations for repair and warranty.

Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • One (1) year of experience as a Fleet Custodian, or equivalent experience, such as washing and treating vehicles and equipment and applying corrosion resistant materials.
  • Current driver license.
  • A high-level of awareness and attention to safety.
  • Ability to operate a pickup truck while towing a pressure washer trailer.
  • Ability to use a pressure washer (up to 3000 psi), cleaning brushes, pump sprayer, foam cannon, vacuum cleaner, and basic hand tools.
  • Ability to use Windows based software, including email.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • A High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Intermediate computer skills to operate various computer programs, such as Microsoft Office applications, internal WSDOT applications, and the internet.

Important Notes
  • This is a non-permanent position, anticipated to last up to six (6) months.
  • This position is not eligible for remote work.
  • Employee will travel to various WSDOT locations throughout Spokane County and occasional off-site meeting or attend training.
  • In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position. For union-represented positions, more information on other forms of compensation can be found in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements. Information on other compensation types for non-represented positions can be found in Chapter 357-28 of the Washington Administrative Code.
