Notifies supervisor of unsafe conditions or repairs needed outside of current skill level. Participates in special projects and light construction within the Department. Performs semi-skilled level trade duties and assist other trades workers in performing maintenance duties.JOB DUTIES: Provides for general maintenance and repair of the facilities in a cost-effective manner.Performs multiple professional trades functions as needed to include the following: general carpentry work, repairs and minor construction, painting and drywall repairs, light plumbing repairs and fixture installations, roof and building repairs within skill level, installs and/or repairs locks or access control levels, and coordinates repairs with Central Physical Plant Locksmith consultation.Performs preventative maintenance.Performs heavy manual labor, forming, pouring, and finishing concrete, and light electrical repairs, fixture installations, outlet and switch replacements, light bulb replacements, and low voltage work.Works independently on projects within the department. Independently or with others performs construction work as needed. Supervises SCDC Inmates as needed.Prepares and submits material requests.Prepares and submit work orders.Remains abreast of new techniques, procedures, and equipment in the maintenance field.Responds to 24-hour emergency call back requests as scheduled.Works outside of traditional hours as needed.Performs other related job duties as assigned by supervisors or as needed.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma and trades experience related to the area of employment. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis for basis.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrate proficient ability to use all tools, equipment, and materials associated with general building maintenance, light construction, and repairs.Must have knowledge of general construction practices and procedures. Must have general knowledge of Plumbing, HVAC, & Electrical Trades.Ability to independently interpret plans and specifications as applied to special projects assigned.Employee must have and maintain valid driver's license.Employee will work independently, with others, and/or oversee others as assigned.Ability to perform heavy manual labor.Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of employment.Receives general supervision from the Facilities Maintenance Manager I and Maintenance Manager and repairs.Employee will consult with Supervisor for direction as needed.Must be able to lift up to 50lbs unassisted.Employee must possess sufficient knowledge to make on the spot, independent judgements regarding general building maintenance, light construction, and repairs.Employee will consult with Supervisor for direction as needed.Must be able to climb, reach, and bend. Be able to lift and carry up to 15 lbs; be able to interpret instructions to achieve results, be able to operate security systems; be able to travel overnight and for impromptu; be on call, be able to work in an environment with incarcerated juveniles. Must be able to meet the physical demands of all assigned jobs and be willing to work with SCDC Inmates as directed. Must be willing to work at night or in inclement weather as needed.Position subject to recall during Agency or State emergency.This position performs duties relating to the custody, control, transportation or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of SCDJJ; employee may have direct or indirect contact with incarcerated Youth. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
