Are you passionate about nature and conservation? Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge with others? We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Seasonal Naturalists for the upcoming season. As a Seasonal Naturalist, you will play a vital role in educating visitors about the local environment, wildlife, and conservation efforts. Your primary responsibilities will include: Leading Nature Walks: Conduct guided nature walks for visitors, highlighting local flora, fauna, and ecological features. Delivering Presentations: Develop and present engaging talks and demonstrations on various environmental topics to diverse audiences. Assisting Visitors: Provide information and assistance to visitors at the nature center. Developing Educational Materials: Contribute to the development of educational materials such as brochures, exhibits, and signage. Participating in Conservation Projects: Assist with conservation initiatives, habitat restoration, and wildlife monitoring efforts. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Individuals will assist the Outdoor Education Specialist with planning, coordination, and execution of numerous interpretive programs and outdoor skills programs to a range of audiences in several locations throughout the Northwest Parks Region. Travel to the areas where programs are presented will be required. These programs may include: Outdoor Discovery Program, Anniversary Celebrations, field trips for area schools, wildlife/habitat management programs and customer service activities. Perform related work as required. Individuals will assist with recreational, educational, and interpretive activities; assist with preparation and organization of a variety of educational and interpretive programs within a recreational, natural, or cultural setting; assist with preparation of material for recreational and educational programs. Naturalist programs are offered to a range of audiences and may include activities outdoor skills (fishing, etc.), natural history (bird watching, insects, mammals, etc.), other sciences (amateur astronomy, geology, and paleontology), guide hikes, night programs, special events and more. In addition to educational programs, individuals will assist with housekeeping and maintenance of nature center facilities and daily animal care. Individuals will perform customer service activities, such as answering phones, taking payments and answering questions. Perform related work as required. Requirements / Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: Experience working in a recreational area, scenic attraction or historical setting, retail or customer service setting, agricultural setting, or related coursework/training or experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience or education in outdoor activities described above plus some teaching experience and/or experience developing educational programs. Other: Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of education principles and practices, animal husbandry, the ability to present information to a variety of audiences, and ability to drive a vehicle for work purposes. Basic knowledge of and strong interest in topics described above. Excellent communication/teaching skills are needed for this position. Applicant must have a willingness to learn about the natural history of area parks and environments. Must have a strong desire to share this knowledge with the public through interpretive and educational programming.
