State of Missouri is Hiring a Superintendent - 7070300 Near Columbia, MO

Salary: $2,374.64 - $2,422.13 semi-monthly *Salary may be commensurate of education and/or experience

Job Location: This position is with Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, and will be located at Finger Lakes State Park, 1505 E. Peabody Road, Columbia, MO. On-site housing is not available at this location.

What you’ll do:

  • This position is responsible for the administrative and supervisory oversight of Finger Lakes State Park; including oversight of daily operations of campground, day use areas, park office, budgeting, directing maintenance priorities, meeting operational standards, staff work schedules, and direct supervision.
  • Must be able to exercise a high degree of initiate and independent judgement in planning and implementing the work.
  • Supervise permanent, seasonal, temporary, and volunteer employees at Finger Lakes State Park in the protection, maintenance, operation, and repair of state parks/historic sites, natural and cultural resources, facilities, equipment, and systems. Skill in managing and collaborating with staff.
  • Greet the public and discuss the facility’s resources, rules, and regulations relating to the state park and historic site system.
  • Develop, schedule, and participate in special events, interpretive programs, and informational public meetings.
  • Establish a functional, proactive, working relationship with the media, local governments, local constituency groups and other stake holders.
  • Research, collect, organize, draft data for fiscal, statistical, and operational reports.
  • Assist in implementing state park or historic site development projects, which include expansions, new construction, renovations, and maintenance.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, personal injuries, disturbances, natural disasters, and any other significant events within the park.
  • Position must be available to work on weekends and evenings, in order to respond to incidents and to visitors’ needs at the park (which is open on weekends year round).

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can include: Park Management, Parks and Recreation, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Botany, Biology, Natural Sciences, Business of Public Administration or related field.
  • AND five or more years of management, supervision and participation in interpretation, preservation, protection, maintenance and enhancement of state parks and historic sites.
  • Substitutions for additional education or experience may be allowed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Available to work rotating shifts that include nights, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Ability to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions, climb stairs, and have the ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Skill in providing information and guidance to park/historic site visitors and staff.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in person and with written correspondence.
  • Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
