State of Missouri is Hiring a Maintenance/Grounds Technician Near Saint James, MO

As a Maintenance/Ground Technician you will provide maintenance/repair services to the skilled nursing facility. This position is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled work in the alteration, maintenance, and repair of our Missouri Veterans Home. You will work in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair. This position requires on-call and call-back, for which compensation will be provided.

Hourly Range: $16.31 - $19.19
Pay commensurate with experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge in the operation, maintenance, and safety practices of grounds maintenance tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Knowledge in a variety of trade areas including: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, bend, reach, and climb a ladder
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and traverse over rugged terrain
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical manual
  • Ability to obtain required licenses and or certification

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience. Substitutions may apply
  • Possess a valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements:

  • Walking, balancing, finger dexterity, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, squatting, reaching both outwards and overhead, lifting and moving materials (occasionally in difficult work positions), repetitive motions, frequent washing of hands, and general physical activities requiring a full range of mobility in upper and lower body
  • Must be able to work with some physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, occasionally in confined spaces, on ladders and rooftops, and in adverse weather conditions

Job Description Summary:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and monitoring activities on equipment as directed by supervisor
  • Assist higher level maintenance staff in performing more complex maintenance repairs and construction activities
  • Paint buildings and equipment; patch and plaster walls, repair or replace tiles and other wall coverings. Replace ceiling tile. Repair/replace door lock systems. Repair and construct wood or metal equipment, furniture, doors, shelves, floors, or other fixtures
  • Open stopped sewage or drain lines, replace and repair faucets, toilets, sinks, valves, water lines, and other plumbing equipment and fixtures
  • Repair electrical motors, generators, and communication equipment, perform more complex electrical work, with appropriate training and education. Perform routine maintenance in electrical work such as replacing light bulbs, outlets, and switches, and limited repairs of electrical motors, generators, and communication equipment Repair boilers, HVAC units, refrigeration and cooling towers
  • Perform routine care and maintenance of facility machines, vehicles and equipment
  • Position self and equipment under, in, around and over structures and objects
  • Operate various powered equipment (lawn tractor, snow blower, etc.) in the performance of assigned tasks’. Repair and maintain tools and equipment used
  • Participate in the maintenance of the Home’s grounds; plant and water trees, grass, flowers, shrubs; mow and trim lawn and hedges; weed flower beds, spray lawn, shrubs and trees with fertilizer and insecticide
  • Lift and move objects and supplies, climb ladders, work at high levels (30 feet or more) and use forklifts, power tools, motorized hydraulic jacks or related equipment
  • Work outdoors in extreme heat or cold temperatures
  • Perform limited concrete work
  • Perform preventative maintenance on whirlpools, washers, dryers, oxygen equipment, and kitchen equipment such as dishwashers, ovens, stoves, etc
  • Make and install signs
  • Remove snow as necessary
  • Perform welding or soldering work
  • Respond to internal and external disasters such as fires, tornadoes, etc, in order to protect residents, staff and property.
  • Stand for long periods while completing assigned tasks
  • Attend department meetings and training
  • Clean and organize work areas
  • Adhere to infection control procedures as trained
  • Work weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights as needed. Be on call for emergencies as needed. Assist in disaster events
  • Install decorations for holidays
  • Raise/lower flags and replace as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
