State of Missouri is Hiring a Central District Design-Build Project Director Near Columbia, MO

Positions are typically filled at a salary no higher than the identified midpoint/market level of a salary range.

The Central District is currently seeking a District Design-Build Project to lead the development and administration of district design-build projects. Current projects identified and/or underway include the construction of the ($240 Million) Rocheport Bridge Replacement on Cooper/Boone I-70 over the Missouri River and Katy Trail as well as the ($188 Million) Improve I-70 in Boone County project.

The Project Director will be the lead in the procurement and administration of the design and construction contract. Design-Build is a partnership with the industry to deliver the project goals by managing and allocating risks appropriately. Other duties to expect are developing the MoDOT Team, supervising preparation of project documentation; provide technical expertise and design/constructability input; and resolving project issues as they arise. The Project Director has direct responsibility for the overall success of the project and supervises staff assigned to the MoDOT Project Team along with owner engineer consultant activities.

The Rocheport Bridge Replacement project is currently under construction with the first bridge scheduled to open in the spring of 2023. Overall completion of construction for the bridge is in 2024. The Improve I-70 in Boone County Design-Build project has a tentative schedule to complete the re-evaluation of the Environmental Impact Statement in the Spring of 2023 while also writing the Request for Proposal (RFP) and release the RFP by June of 2023. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2024.

What you'll need for success:

  • Bachelor's Degree: Civil Engineering
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.
  • Six years of progressive experience in engineering positions, including demonstrated ability to manage teams, multiple projects, and focus on several functional areas of engineering.

  • Highly developed communication skills, including public presentations, personal, and written
  • Adept collaborator with ability to build and maintain relationships with both internal and external team members
  • Good facilitator
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering processes and standards
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills and ability to keep all aspects of a project progressing
  • Innovative
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to drive results from all the team through the duration of the project
  • Efficiently and effectively manage the owner consultant for project needs
  • Willingness to develop these qualities in self and team
  • Work hours may vary due to project needs

The best candidate for the position will be selected based on the minimum requirements and the desired qualities listed above.

According to the project needs, the Project Team, led by the Project Director, may increase incrementally beyond the initial Project Team.
