Performs legal functions for the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MHTC) and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Serves at the pleasure of the Chief Counsel.

A day in the life:

• Assists the Commission and Department by drafting contracts, administrative rules, legislation, and legal memos/opinions.
• Provides legal advice and counsel to the Commission and MoDOT staff on various legal issues.
• Serves as a member of Chief Counsel's Office central office teams and task forces.
• Represents the Commission in litigation regarding condemnation/inverse condemnation, tort liability and construction contracts.
• Accountable for meeting Chief Counsel's Office goals and performance measures.
• Performs other responsibilities pursuant to classification and qualifications of assistant counsel as approved by the Commission and contained in the Chief Counsel's Office staff procedures manual.

What you'll need for success:

• J.D. Degree
• Admission to the Missouri Bar

Special working conditions and job characteristics:

• Maintains attorney-client privilege.
• Excellent research and writing skills are preferred.
• Work involves flexible, sometimes long hours.
• Moderate overnight travel involved in-state and out of state.
• Starting salary may be negotiable based upon experience.
