Job Summary

** The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

This position is located at Central Office in St. Paul and has the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent may be expected to work in the office on occasion.

The Principal Corridor Planner will support the implementation of MnDOT’s Corridor Planning Program, initiated in 2023. The purpose of corridor planning is to connect MnDOT’s adopted policy goals including climate action, transportation safety, and healthy equitable communities to the selection and development of state highway projects. The position will support MnDOT Central Office staff and MnDOT District planning staff in administering and prioritizing corridor plans on selected state highways.

Occasional (5% of time) travel to MnDOT District offices.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of advanced professional transportation planning experience that demonstrates:

  • Experience with planning principles, methods, and techniques sufficient to develop statewide, regional or community plans.
  • Experience applying state and federal laws, policies, rules, regulations, or planning principles sufficient to evaluate and interpret impact on transportation studies, plans and projects.
  • Experience with data collection, analysis, and reporting methods sufficient to effectively compile, synthesize, evaluate and share information with management, various agencies and the public.

A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, Political Science substitutes for six months of advanced professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, or Political Science.
  • Experience working on a highway corridor study or preparing a transportation environmental review.
  • Experience conducting public engagement, particularly with historically underserved populations.
  • Experience using GIS to present and analyze data.
