Job Summary

Hybrid work environment with potential for significant telework. Primary work location will be the Golden Rule Building in St. Paul.

Insurance impacts our welfare by providing financial stability to consumers and businesses. As such, the state has a vested interest in insurance companies treating Minnesotans fairly and ensuring insurance products are transparent and readily available. The Chief Insurance Enforcement Examiner is responsible for supervising the Market Conduct Examination Team in the examination and analysis of the business practices, policies, and rates of insurance companies.

Examinations and analysis are performed to verify insurance company compliance with insurance laws and regulations and identify emerging trends. This work will entail providing daily direction and mentoring to two senior investigators, one management analyst, one administrative specialist, and coordinating the work of contract examiners, as necessary.

This position will also participate in developing examination and analysis policies and procedures; examination planning, budgeting, and strategy; the market conduct examination-related working groups of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners; and advising senior agency staff on insurance issues.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of insurance industry experience in compliance, law, regulatory affairs, or a related area.
  • Experience as a supervisor, project manager, and/or lead worker.
  • Experience with investigative methods and analyzing data.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complicated information to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (master’s degree or J.D.)
  • Insurance-related designation (e.g., CLU, FLMI, CPCU, AIRC, FAHM, MCM, AMCM, CFE, AIE, CIE)
  • Experience as examiner-in-charge, staff examiner, or company coordinator of market conduct examinations.
  • A variety of experiences working effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, political science, pre-law, or a related field can be substituted for one (1) year of experience.

An advanced degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, political science, law, or a related field can be substituted for eighteen (18) months of experience.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer.
