Main Purpose of Job
To provide speech, language and\r\naural rehabilitation services to MSD students, including those who may have multiple\r\ndisabilities. Speech-Language services help support a bilingual approach by\r\nfacilitating and enhancing student communication skills.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
��Administer language, speech and auditory skill\r\ndiagnostic evaluations;\r\n��Conduct speech, language, speech reading and\r\nauditory skills development;\r\n��Evaluate treatment and revise as necessary;\r\n��Prepare and maintain necessary records and\r\nreport on student services and progress;\r\n��Participate in team and community meetings;\r\n��Serve as an IEP team member, determine present\r\nlevels of performance and establish goals specifically addressed to student\r\nneeds;\r\n��Use developmentally appropriate activities, a\r\nvariety of therapy materials and oral-motor strategies as needed;\r\n��Adapt therapy strategies to facilitate student\r\nprogress, including service delivery methods (services both inside and outside\r\nof the classroom);\r\n��Consult with other professional and\r\nnonprofessional personnel, including conferences with parents and classroom\r\nstaff, concerning student performance;\r\n��Assist with training of classroom staff\r\nregarding amplification equipment, feeding/swallowing precautions and/or\r\naugmentative communication use;\r\n��Conduct and participate in seminars,\r\nin-service and professional training programs;\r\n��Maintain confidentiality pertaining to\r\nstudents care;\r\n��Assume other responsibilities as designated by\r\nthe Department Head.\r\n��Candidate should have:\r\n��Knowledge of the theory, principles and\r\npractices of speech-language pathology;\r\n��Evaluations and treatment should be conducted\r\nwith the unique deaf and hard of hearing population in mind.\r\nConsiderations of hearing levels, language abilities and cultural diversity are\r\nessential to meeting the needs of this population.\r\n��Proficiency with or the ability to use a\r\nvariety of computer programs and applications (i.e. Google, MS Word,\r\nBoardmaker, Maryland Online IEP program, etc.)\r\n��Skill in basic level of sign language a must\r\nwith willingness to improve ASL skills to achieve fluency\r\n��Additional desirable knowledge: Phonological\r\nAwareness, ABA experience, AAC experience, Feeding/Swallowing experience.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:� Set by the Maryland State Board of\r\nExaminers for Speech-Language Pathologists under the licensing requirements.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
�\r\nCandidate possesses and maintains certification through the\r\nAmerican Speech-Language Hearing Association.\r\n�\r\nTakes initiative to remain current in clinical practice through\r\nlectures, literature and other educational opportunities.\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidates for this position\r\nmust possess or be qualified to receive, a current license from the Maryland\r\nState Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists, 4201 Patterson\r\nAvenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.\r\n�\r\nEmployees in this class must\r\nrenew their license in accordance with Title 19, Speech-Language Pathology,\r\nHealth Occupations Article, and Annotated Code of Maryland.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a\r\ncriminal background investigation at their own expense.� (Maryland Code,\r\nFamily Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)\r\n�\r\nCandidates will need to provide\r\nthree letters of recommendation with their application.\r\n
