LOCATION OF POSITION

MSD, Frederick Campus, 101 Clarke Place, Frederick, MD 21705\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

To provide speech, language and aural rehabilitation services to MSD students, including those who may have multiple disabilities. Speech-Language services help support a bilingual approach by facilitating and enhancing student communication skills.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Administer language,\r\nspeech and auditory skill diagnostic evaluations;\r\n\r\n\r\nConduct speech,\r\nlanguage, speech reading and auditory skills development;\r\n\r\n\r\nEvaluate treatment and\r\nrevise as necessary;\r\n\r\n\r\nPrepare and maintain\r\nnecessary records and report on student services and progress;\r\n\r\n\r\nParticipate in team\r\nand community meetings;\r\n\r\n\r\nServe as an IEP team\r\nmember, determine present levels of performance and establish goals\r\nspecifically addressed to student needs;\r\n\r\n\r\nUse developmentally\r\nappropriate activities, a variety of therapy materials and oral-motor\r\nstrategies as needed;\r\nAdapt therapy\r\nstrategies to facilitate student progress, including service delivery methods\r\n(services both inside and outside of the classroom);\r\n\r\n\r\nConsult with other\r\nprofessional and nonprofessional personnel, including conferences with parents\r\nand classroom staff, concerning student performance;\r\n\r\n\r\nAssist with training\r\nof classroom staff regarding amplification equipment, feeding/swallowing\r\nprecautions and/or augmentative communication use;\r\n\r\n\r\nConduct and\r\nparticipate in seminars, in-service and professional training programs;\r\n\r\n\r\nMaintain confidentiality\r\npertaining to students care;\r\n\r\n\r\nAssume other\r\nresponsibilities as designated by the Department Head.\r\n\r\n\r\nCandidate should have:\r\nKnowledge of the\r\ntheory, principles and practices of speech-language pathology;\r\n\r\n\r\nEvaluations and\r\ntreatment should be conducted with the unique deaf and hard of hearing\r\npopulation in mind. Considerations of hearing levels, language abilities and\r\ncultural diversity are essential to meeting the needs of this population.\r\n\r\n\r\nProficiency with or\r\nthe ability to use a variety of computer programs and applications (i.e.\r\nGoogle, MS Word, Boardmaker, Maryland Online IEP program, etc.)\r\n\r\n\r\nSkill in basic level\r\nof sign language a must with willingness to improve ASL skills to achieve\r\nfluency.\r\n\r\n\r\nAdditional desirable\r\nknowledge: Phonological Awareness, ABA experience, AAC experience,\r\nFeeding/Swallowing experience.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:� Set by the Maryland State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language\r\nPathologists under the licensing requirements.\r\n\r\n\r\nSkill in basic level of sign language a must with willingness to improve ASL skills to achieve fluency.\r\n\r\n\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for this position must possess a current license or be able\r\nto obtain a current license from the Maryland State Board of Examiners for\r\nSpeech-Language Pathologists.\r\n\r\n\r\nWilling to learn American Sign Language.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for this\r\nposition must possess a current license or be able to obtain a current license\r\nfrom the Maryland State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists,\r\n4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.\r\n\r\n\r\nEmployees in this class\r\nmust renew their license in accordance with Title 19, Speech-Language\r\nPathology, Health Occupations Article, and Annotated Code of Maryland.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
