POSITION SUMMARY

The Illinois Central Management Services (CMS) agency is seeking to hire a Human Resources

Assistant position with the CMS Upward Mobility Program (UMP). This position serves as the point of

contact for AFSCME bargaining unit employees by providing them the opportunity for career

counseling and access to UMP benefits. In this role, you will be responsible for educating potential

applicants on the Upward Mobility program, answering phones, updating records in multiple

databases, reporting, maintaining multiple mailboxes, and assistance with testing and / or the

educational documents required or participants to reach their targeted career goals. The ideal

candidate will be detailed oriented, skilled in word processing and spreadsheet applications, and

organized. We strongly value excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate to

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUINCTIONS

  • Under direction of the Upward Mobility Program Manager, provides general clerical support for Upward Mobility Program (UMP) staff.
  • Performs specialized clerical duties for the Upward Mobility Program (UMP).
  • Serves as an initial representative of the program to employees interested in enrolling in Upward Mobility.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned projects that are within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and two years of related clerical experience such as would be acquired at the Office Assistant level, or satisfactory completion of an approved training program.
  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 30 words per minute.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • This position prefers working knowledge of commonly used office equipment and performing routine maintenance.
  • This position prefers working knowledge of commonly used office software applications.
  • This position prefers working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • This position prefers one (1) year of professional experience greeting customers.
  • This position prefers one (1) year of professional experience effectively communicating the details of a program, product, or service with interested parties.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required / mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.

This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
