Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill a Park Services Specialist position, providing interpretation animal maintenance, community outreach, administration, and resource management.

The applicant must possess good visitor service and administrative skills, be able to work independently and have the ability to perform a variety of functions using assorted equipment and tools.

The applicant must be able to work rotating shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays

At 359 acres, scrub is the largest community. This is a high visitor services park with a majority of the public concentrated in the 32-acre Historic Attraction and Buccaneer Bay.

Base salary : $3,003 month / $36,036 annual

Your Specific Responsibilities :

This is moderately independent work providing Visitor Services, Resource Management, Maintenance, Administration and Protection of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.

This is moderately independent work providing Visitor Services, Resource Management, Animal Maintenance, Administration and Community Outreach of Weeki Wachee Springs State Park.

VISITOR SERVICES / INTERPRETATION - Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment and education; meets visitors, answers questions, provides information and directions in an accurate and professional manner.

Attempts to resolve visitor complaints while maintaining good public relations. Plans, develops, manages and conducts park programs and interpretive displays.

Provides input, training and guidance on all programs provided by the park not related to the mermaid performances.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Provides assistance in prescribed burning, exotic plant and animal removal and other natural and cultural resource management techniques.

Maintains prescribed fire and exotic removal data base for park. Tracks burn and no burn days. Assists park management in reaching annual resource management goals.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH - Plans, organizes and conducts community outreach programs and activities. Represents the park and the Florida Park Service to outside entities .

ADMINISTRATION - Oversees OPS staff assigned to the wildlife department. Prepares work schedules and assignments for wildlife department.

OTHER Performs other related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

KNOWLEDGE OF :

  • Interpretive program and materials development
  • Record and files management
  • Natural and cultural resource management practices

SKILL IN :

  • communicating effectively verbally and in writing
  • developing and presenting interpretive exhibits and programs
  • interacting with all internal and external customers and the general public in a professional, tactful and courteous manner
  • producing photographs and slides using a variety of software
  • utilize a computer including, but not limited to software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite

ABILITY TO :

  • handle and care for wildlife permitted for the park
  • follow verbal and written instructions / directions
  • work independently with minimal supervision
  • establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • speak in public
  • understand and apply rules, directives, policies, laws and regulations
  • analyze programs and proposed projects
  • prepare records and reports
  • research topics and prepare environmental education displays, exhibits and programs
  • monitor and evaluate programs to assess their effectiveness
  • work outdoors in inclement weather
  • work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • successfully complete ranger academy
  • maintain a valid driver's license
  • successfully complete background & fingerprint check
  • properly wear uniform
  • comply with male and female hair grooming standards and body art and piercing restrictions

Minimum qualifications :

Valid Driver’s license.
