The Florida Department of Health in Panama City, Bay County, FL is accepting applications for a General Dentist to perform pediatric dentistry for children and young adults up to age 21. New, or recent, graduates are welcome to apply. The following education/experience is preferred, but not required: completion of general practice residency (GPR), Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), and/or pediatric dentistry.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a highly responsible position assigned to the Children's Dental Program within the Bay County Health Department. Works independently and makes decisions based on analysis of data and knowledge of dental practice. Maintains skills and completes on-going training to maintain active license in accordance with the dental practice act.
This position provides professional dental services consisting of examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, and care of conditions within the human oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures, including emergency, surgical, preventive, and restorative dental care to children and young adults up to 21 years of age. Performs diagnostic, preventive, restorative, endodontic, periodontic, prosthodontic, and surgical procedures within the scope of the dental practice act. Develops treatment plans and maintains treatment records in accordance with the dental practice act.
Work includes promotion and establishment of population-based dental preventive and educational programs and related dental public health activities. Collaborates with the Dental Clinic Manager and the Community Program Manager to promote community and school-base preventive educational programs. Promotes the development of county integrated, coordinated oral health system between the public and private sector. Provides consultative and technical assistance to public and private entities, regarding oral health issues.
Coordinates and directs the clinical portion of dental services, including all documentation required to assure compliance with the Florida Department of Health Dental Program expectations. Monitors quality of care to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
Provides guidance to the program's Dental Hygienists and Assistants. Works collaboratively with management and staff to create systems and processes that generate significant revenue to assure all operational costs are covered by income.
Performs all other related duties as assigned in support of the Agency's mission and vision.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and techniques of dentistry.
  • Knowledge of dental treatment techniques.
  • Skill in using dental instruments and equipment.
  • Skill in filling cavities, extracting teeth, performing dental restorative work, and treating dental diseases, infections, injuries and malformations of the mouth and teeth.
  • Ability to perform dental examinations and diagnose dental problems.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to monitor the quantity and quality of dental care.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.

  • Licensure as a Dentist in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes.
