Education Supervisor II - SES 70013377

This advertisement is for a SES (Select Exempt Service) position located at Charlotte Correctional Institution in the Education Department.

Salary Rate : $65,000.00 annually

SALARY WILL BE APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PAY POLICY. THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE APPOINTED AT THE ABOVE LISTED APPOINTMENT RATE.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for the direction of the total academic, vocational and wellness programs at larger, more complex correctional institutions / facilities with specialized populations.

Employees in positions allocated to this class exercise independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and preparation of budgets.

Duties include but will not be limited to the following :

  • Plans, organizes and directs the education programs at the correctional institution / facility. This involves supervising education staff in teaching academic and vocational courses, counseling, clerical duties, and volunteers.
  • Coordinates with security to provide cell front and direct academic instruction to the close management population.
  • Counsels inmates regarding educational concerns as well as personal or family problems.
  • Supervises the preparation and administration of the budget for the education department. This includes maintaining appropriate budgetary controls to ensure proper and legal administration of funds, operations within allocation approved programs, and submission of data for budget preparation as provided in specific instructions.
  • Acts as Local Education Agency (LEA) representative and regularly attends all Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings.
  • Interviews, selects, and coordinates the assignment of staff to include conducting performance appraisals, administering discipline and counseling or coaching staff.
  • Monitors the maintenance and cleaning of the education building and equipment.
  • Directs the preparation of reports required by specific request, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Initiates and documents procedures and policies necessary to ensure compliance with education standards.
  • Provides monthly reports to Central Office staff pertaining to students with disabilities and coordinates with Central Office staff to ensure institutional compliance with Department of Education rules and audit findings.
  • Schedules staff training to ensure that all education staff complete in-service requirements. This includes development and presentation of new employee orientation programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :

  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to manage an education program.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques of teaching.
  • Knowledge of the principles of human learning, behavior and counseling.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of curriculum development.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to prepare teaching plans, courses, activities and learning experiences for a variety of students.
  • Ability to develop appropriate curriculums.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to teach individuals in a classroom setting.
  • Ability to counsel students on academic problems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :

  • A master's degree from an accredited college / university, three years of teaching experience, at least one of which must have been in a supervisory capacity, and a current State of Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate.
  • In addition, employees in this position must add at least one of the following administrative coverage areas within 36 months of appointment : school principal, administration of adult education, local director of vocational education, or educational leadership.
