** SHIFT HOURS ARE AS FOLLOWS: Saturday & Sunday 1 PM – 2:30 AM and Monday & Tuesday 6 PM - 2:30 AM **

 GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

Encompasses the operation of multiple central site large-scale computer systems, as well as computer peripheral equipment. Performs a variety of highly responsible duties, involving independent judgment and initiative, some of which may be of a sensitive nature. Monitors the computer systems for system efficiency and timeliness of activities. Confers with system analysts, vendors, and all users of the Lottery computer equipment. Customer service and working with technical vendors are also major parts of this position.

WORK PERFORMED(Note: The omission of specific statements does not prevent management from assigning specific duties not listed herein if such duties are a logical assignment to the position.)

  • Operates all components of the Lottery’s computer systems. This includes timely completion of monitored jobs and processing daily draws for games that occur during specific shift time frames. Helps to plan workloads, work flows, and priorities for job scheduling. Makes corrections necessary to complete work on schedule.
  • Handles emergency situations (computer hardware failures, software problems, inclement weather, etc.) through approved emergency guidelines.
  • Performs Production Control analysts’ tasks such as scheduling jobs, releasing jobs, releasing streams, etc. 
  • Operates a personal computer in a Microsoft Windows environment as needed for electronic correspondence, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
  • Operate computer systems components and its peripheral equipment.
  • Monitors environment and electrical power to maintain narrow margin of operating conditions necessary to keep computer systems functioning.
  • Document problems and actions by completing Operator logs.
  • Assist Computer Operations staff in problem determination and resolution.
  • Assists in the creating, updating and reviewing of all Computer Systems Operations standard operating procedures (SOPs) and backup and recovery procedures and processes. 
  • Trains Computer Operations staff as needed.
  • Assists the Tallahassee and Orlando Data Center Supervisor in supervising both data centers.

  • Ability to detect equipment malfunctions and contact proper support staff.

  • Ability to complete work assignments on time and work with other technical staff.
  • Ability to follow operational and maintenance procedures, understand the reasoning behind these procedures and explain their benefits to others.
  • Ability to make timely and accurate decisions during normal operating conditions and critical situations.
  • Ability to plan, organize and,coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate technical IT information effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent and two (2) years of experience** in the operation of a computer mainframe and computer peripheral equipment, or
  • A high school diploma and its equivalent, one (1) year of experience** in the operation of a computer mainframe or computer peripheral equipment, and completion of a program of study from a vocational/technical school or data processing vendor in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) with a minimum of 720 hours of classroom instruction.

**College course work may be substituted at the rate of thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter hours for one year of the required work experience provided the course work included at least four (4) courses in an area of data processing other than data entry.

  •  A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  •  Maintains strict confidentiality of information learned while working with the Florida Lottery, whether learned through assigned duties or through working with other units. The types of confidential information may include, but are not limited to, payroll information, budget matters, policy decisions, tax matters, employee disciplinary issues, and other personnel data.
