State of Delaware is Hiring a Police lieutenant Near Dover, DE

Summary Statement

This classification is a certified police officer responsible for supervising other Division police Officers statewide. This position assigns and evaluates work, conducts performance evaluations, issues discipline, and oversees training of lower-level employees.

The incumbent will enforce all provisions of the Delaware code with primary focus on the liquor control act and the marijuana control act, make arrests and testify in court or before other judicial officers.

Supervisors engage in a variety of community outreach events, conduct trainings, and serve as a liaison with industry stakeholders and other police agencies.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.

  • Plans, assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of subordinate staff.
  • Identifies training needs of staff, coordinates the procurement of training by contracted vendors and other law enforcement agencies, ensures training is provided to maintain certification, maintains training records, and prepares reports mandated by law.
  • Prepares, justifies, recommends and controls the budget for a regional area; writes grant applications and manages and controls grant expenditures;

and participates in the strategic planning process.

  • Conducts complex investigations involving multiple law enforcement jurisdictions.
  • Prosecutes cases in court and before the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner.
  • Develops, evaluates, recommends and implements new and revised laws, rules, regulations, programs, policies and procedures to achieve the agency's mission, goals and objectives.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Alcohol & Tobacco Police Lieutenant

Applicants must have education, training and / or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas :

Possession of an active State of Delaware Council on Police Training Certificate or equivalent, OR eligibility for recertification per Delaware Administrative Code Title 1, Chapter 801, Section 8.

0 Re-activation Requirements of Police Officers.

  • At least nine years experience as a Certified Police Officer.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
  • Three years experience in planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing in-depth, long term investigations.
  • Three years experience in ensuring compliance with alcohol and tobacco laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of developing policies or procedures.
  • Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others;

OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.

Additional Posting Information

This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.

Conditions of Hire

As a Condition of Hire a satisfactory fingerprint-based background check administered by the Delaware State Police is required.
