Department InformationAs the Colorado Energy Office grows and scales, the need for meaningful and coordinated communications, outreach, and engagement is crucial to meeting our goals. This includes communications through traditional media, social media, email campaigns, and our website, as well as community engagement with a broad array of stakeholders. Targeted engagement with disproportionately impacted communities and community members as well as engagement focused on bolstering our workforce development efforts will be critical to our work. The Director of the Communications and Engagement team will be responsible for leading a new team that provides resources, expertise, and capacity to the rest of the Colorado Energy Office in the areas of communications, engagement, and workforce development. Staff from existing teams working on these key areas will transfer to this team, and additional staff will be hired. The Director will lead hiring efforts, support and manage team members, ensure adequate coverage for program and policy efforts, and offer strategic support on CEO’s overall engagement goals. The ideal candidate will be solution-oriented, collaborative, have deep expertise and passion for community engagement and communication, and be excited to engage in the work of CEO’s program teams. Description Of JobStarting Salary Range: $95,000.10 - $130,000.00 Annually
The position is considered hybrid and may conduct work remotely as per the needs of the position and department.*
Team Leadership
Develop a new team, fostering a collaborative, supportive environment for team members that lead communications, community engagement and workforce development efforts across the state.
Work closely with other CEO directors to ensure adequate coverage for ongoing program support to engage communities, effectively communicate to support CEO priorities, and develop climate workforce capacity across the state.
Hire, train and supervise team members, and maintain employee performance and accountability. Identify program staffing needs, and support employee professional development and training. Conduct staff performance evaluations.
Create an environment in which CEO employees are valued and effective, and supporting attainment of CEO’s mission.
Communications and Stakeholder Engagement
Lead stakeholder efforts for CEO and direct the engagement staff, support program success, and ensure internal coordination between teams and with other state agencies and outside partners.
Support digital accessibility efforts at CEO by working to prioritize accessibility in our outreach, engagement, website, marketing, and communications strategies and by helping build capacity to address accessibility issues.
Maintain expertise in best practices for community engagement in serving Disproportionately Impacted Communities and ensure best practices are widely in use.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders including: federal and state agencies, advocates, community based organizations, local governments, electric and natural gas utilities, industry coalitions, etc.
Meet regularly with other program directors and teams to identify where strategic communications and outreach are needed and collaborate on solutions to support program and equity outcomes
Develop tools and strategies to align and improve the communications and engagement planning processes.
Lead workforce development work at the Energy Office to support program development and objectives and fulfill program requirements.
Represent CEO externally at conferences, events on relevant topics.
Work with the State’s Director of Climate Communications to develop and generate stories and op-eds that amplify the work done at CEO.
General
Follow key developments in CEO Programs and remain up to date on program activities.
Adhere to all health and safety policies in the planning and execution of activities.
Is able to proficiently use word processing, spreadsheet, database, and scheduling software applications to prepare correspondence, plans, reports, schedules, and other documents related to the project.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal Rights
Minimum of 5-7 years professional experience, including at least 2 years of management experience.
Experience in both public and private sectors is preferred.
Experience in stakeholder engagement, communications, program marketing, and workforce development
Project and contract management experience to include developing and tracking budgets
Strong time management and organization skills
Strong written, oral, and presentation communication skills
Strong team management and leadership skills
Experience in and knowledge of energy issues
Preferred Qualifications
Fluency in Spanish.
Strong computer skills.
