COLORADO PARKS AND WILDLIFE

This work unit exists to manage Lake Pueblo State Park under the terms of a lease agreement with the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation (property owner) and within the guidelines of statute, regulation, and Colorado Parks & Wildlife (CPW) regulation, policy, procedure and directive for the use, benefit and enjoyment of over 3 million annual visitors which utilize the area.
Provide a safe and quality recreational experience along with a wide range of appropriate recreational and educational opportunities, while protecting and enhancing the facilities and natural resources of the area by providing visitor services, maintenance functions, natural resource protection and education, administration functions, law enforcement, public safety, inter-agency cooperation, and program development.

Description of Job

This position exists to provide a safe and pleasant environment for recreation activities by cleaning, repairing, and operating equipment, systems, grounds, facilities, and infrastructure for the use of park visitors and staff. This position primarily inspects and maintains, visitor service buildings, utilities, user-level computer and troubleshooting functions and maintains compliance with Local, State, and Federal guidelines (OSHA, ADA, etc). This position must have a basic understanding of computer use to include; Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Applications. This position must communicate with park management, CPW Management teams, and the general public.
Other position duties may include managing the park’s grounds, roads, shorelines, campsites, group picnic area, trails, management of park-owned and/or State Fleet owned vehicles, alternative vehicles, general equipment maintenance and participating in the planning and execution of natural resource management, weed/pest management.
This position may have exclusive responsibility or shared responsibility for some or all of the above areas and some duties are shared with full-time positions at the park.

GROUND MAINTENENCE

Monitors and maintains assigned sections of Lake Pueblo State Park’s grounds and related infrastructure. These areas include but may not be limited to: electrical, plumbing, sprinkler systems, sewer systems, water systems, facility cleaning, campgrounds, picnic areas, playgrounds, road condition and cleanliness, dock and boat ramp maintenance, dumpsters and waste management, road shoulders, open space areas (with vegetation, wildlife and pest management), interior/exterior lighting, and management of pesticides/herbicides.
Operates and maintains/repairs maintenance-related equipment including but not limited to: Tractors, tractor implements, dump trucks, snow plows, mowers, golf carts, UTVs, landscaping tools, and a wide variety of power and hand tools.
Performs maintenance tasks independently or in conjunction with staff in the repair, cleaning and upkeep of buildings and infrastructure to further the goals of the maintenance work programs.
FACILITY MANAGEMENT
Performs routine, preventative, and controlled maintenance tasks independent of or in conjunction with other staff in the maintenance, or repair of buildings and facilities. Maintains skills in the areas of water systems, sewer, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and painting.

EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLE OPERATION

Operates heavy equipment including but not limited to a backhoe, Skid steer, Front End Loader, Broom, Plow, Forklift, and Scissor lift. Will be required to maintain all heavy and light equipment daily, this includes routine scheduled inspections, routine service, trouble shooting, field repairs etc. Will be required to log and track all repairs and preventative maintenance.
HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATION

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications
At least two years of work experience in construction, carpentry, equipment/machinery operation, farming, ranching, range land management, wildlife/habitat management, resource management, landscaping, facility maintenance/management, HVAC, plumbing, electrical or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. You must adequately demonstrate your experience in your application as it relates to the duties of this position. No formal college education is required.
Substitutions

  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current or former State experience relevant to this position
  • Current or former Colorado Parks & Wildlife work or volunteer experience
  • Professional level writing, research and communication development skill
  • Strong level of written and oral communications
  • This position must have a basic understanding of computer use to include; Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Applications.
Required Competencies
  • Strong written skills with an understanding of legal and regulatory concepts and language
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
Conditions of Employment
  • State of Colorado residency is required at the time of application.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state of Colorado driver's license if operating a State vehicle.
  • May be required to work weekends/ holidays and after hours shifts
  • Must be capable of operating boats, OHV, golf carts, maintenance equipment (including but not limited to: mowers, chain saws, weed whips, tractors, snow plow, backhoe, dump truck and other maintenance related equipment)
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify their application from the current position.
