Department Information

This position has a residency waiver and will be accepting applications from residents and non-residents of Colorado. ****$14,000 Sign On Bonus****

This position will receive a short-staffing temporary pay differential of (8% or 3.17%) from July 1st 2023 - June 30th 2024.

About Fort Logan

This position is located at the Colorado Mental Health Institute in Fort Logan (CMHHIFL). CMHHFL is a 94 bed psychiatric facility located in Denver that is dedicated to meeting the needs of the community by providing mental health treatment to adult clients in the metro area. The mission of CMHIFL is to provide the highest quality mental health services to persons of with complex, serious and persistent mental illness within the resources available.

Our goal is to assist patients in returning successfully to the community as soon as possible. The treatment program is designed with the Recovery Philosophy as the basis for the various therapy modalities offered, which include but are not limited to: Individual and group therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Medication & health teaching, Family therapy & education, WRAP groups – wellness recover action plan (integrate WRAP (individual disposition planning), Work therapy, Mindfulness skills – deep breathing, Substance abuse education and Chaplain Services. Our goal is to be a partner in treatment with patients and their families, assisting them on their road to recovery. Description of Job

Additionally as an Assistant Nurse Manager, you can expect to:

  • Coordinates patient care in collaboration with nursing staff and other disciplines’.
  • Provides support for the delivery of patient care and provides clinical leadership.
  • Functions as a liaison between off-hour nursing staff and nursing service administration and communicate incidents, injuries, and critical incidents to nursing and hospital administration.
  • Participates in staff meetings and hospital/nursing committees.
  • Promotes staff development and training at shift level by: supporting staff compliance with hospital-wide mandatory training, (i.e., CPR, infection control, safety, medication review and seclusion/restraint), attending Code Blue events and drills, fire drills and in-services.
  • Coordinates with Nurse Managers to provide employee orientation to new staff.
  • Provides direct supervision for 4-8 internal float pool staff.
  • Participates in job interviews and provide input into decisions about hiring staff. Monitors for compliance with standards of nursing practice and standards of patient care.
  • Assumes leadership role in crisis situations.
  • Responds immediately to all psychiatric and medical emergencies, i.e., Code Blue, accidents, injuries, fires and all other disasters.
  • Oversees the utilization and appropriate implementation of seclusion/restraint, emergency medications, etc.,
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or
any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)
Three (3) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work
assigned to the position
Substitutions:
Appropriate education will substitute for up to two (2) years of the required
experience on a year-for-year basis
Special Qualification:
Maintains active and unencumbered Colorado Registered Nurse License
Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in long-term care or assisted living facility; experience with staff development.
  • Experience as a supervisor

  • Experience working with individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities;

  • Experience working with individuals with mental health diagnoses.

  • Experience multi-tasking and prioritizing assignments;

  • Caring, supportive, accountable leader;

  • Willing to work on an interdisciplinary team and problem-solve solutions to improve services.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. Driver's License (for positions that require a Driver's license)
  • Full Background check: CDHS employees (all Direct contact with vulnerable persons):
    CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, Reference Checks, Professional License verification (licensure requirements), Drug Screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), TB test
    Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers)
  • May work days, evenings and nights
  • Must maintain a current CPR Card and perform CPR adequate compressions and ventilations per CPR guidelines.
  • This position is "Essential Service Designation": you will be required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
  • This position requires on-call work on weekends.
  • May need to transport patient to appointments; travel to other state locations
  • Use, Handling, or Exposure to hazardous materials
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must (1) disclose that information on the application (2) provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position, (3) provide the employee number from the applicant’s prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.

Sign-On Incentive:
Upon approval, a sign-on incentive based on position, ranging from $2,000 to $14,000 (prorated if a part-time position), will be given in three payments: within two pay cycles of when the new employee starts at CDHS, 180-day anniversary, and 270-day anniversary with CDHS. These incentives will be available to the first 1,000 new employees in select high-need positions.
