State of Alaska is Hiring an Office Assistant 1 Near Cordova, AK

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for an Office Assistant 1 located in Cordova!
What you will be doing:
This position is responsible for receiving and batching fish tickets and entering data into the statewide fish ticket database. The incumbent will be tasked with the accurate and timely handling of large numbers of fish tickets, critical to fisheries management.
This is a permanent full-time seasonal position and is scheduled to be staffed from approximately June 1 – August 31, with potential for extension as funding allows.

This position collects and enters in season fish ticket information that is used to provide managers with the current harvest information necessary for management of Copper/Bering River and Prince William Sound salmon fisheries.

The Office Assistant 1 is a representative of the Department of Fish and game and has extensive contact with the public and industry. They will have the opportunity to develop and improve public relations skills by working daily with department staff, industry leaders, and the public. This is a fast-paced working environment, and the incumbent will learn to work independently to support the data need for in season and postseason commercial fisheries management.

This position is located in Cordova, which is an office that handles a large number of fish tickets each year. The daily work environment involves effective communication and teamwork with office coworkers as well as regular use of a computer while coordinating with industry and department staff in person and over the phone.

  • Experience using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, and Access) for word processing, data entry, and organization.
  • Excellent customer service skills while exhibiting a positive, professional, and outgoing attitude, as well as the ability to work well independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with a wide variety of audiences from all levels and backgrounds.
  • Experience multi-tasking with frequent interruptions while remaining calm, organized and accurate.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D.;

OR

Acceptance in full standing by an accredited college (this includes acceptance in a concurrent enrollment or dual enrollment program);

OR

A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys® scores of skill level 3 or higher in: Graphic Literacy (formerly Locating Information), Applied Math, and Workplace Documents (formerly Reading for Information).

Special Note:

ACT WorkKeys® skill testing and career readiness certification is available at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Alaska Job Centers.

"Acceptance in full standing" means acceptance to a post-secondary program by a college or university and does not require enrollment or participation in the program. This includes acceptance in a program offering college credits while in high school, or both high school and college credits, but does not include taking advanced placement courses in high school.

Some positions in this class require the incumbent operate a State vehicle. Such positions require the selected candidate possess a valid driver's license and be 18 years of age or older on or before the first day of employment.
