State of Alaska is Hiring a Fire Training Specialist (12-2041) Near Anchorage, AK

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Under the direction of the Bureau Administrator, Fire Training Specialists coordinates Fire Service Training, Fire Prevention-Community Risk Reduction, and Public Education programs. Duties include review, development support, and coordination of local/nationally adopted standards; training program development; curriculum development and delivery to the fire service, public and industry.

OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE:

The Division of Fire and Life Safety/Office of the State Fire Marshal's Mission is to prevent the loss of life and property from fire and explosion. Fire safety is improved through three means, Enforcement, Engineering, and Education. The Bureau of Fire Accreditation Standards and Training is the provides Education means of our Division. The Mission of the Bureau of Fire Accreditation Standards and Training is: To provide fire training and public fire education services to the Alaskan fire service and all sectors of the Alaskan public.

Incumbent will be responsible for providing comprehensive fire service training to a significant geographic subdivision of the state. As such, work schedule is flexible to accommodate the host organizations. Career enhancing training to maintain relevant capabilities is provided as required. THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:

Position is located at the Department of Public Safety Headquarters in Anchorage. A typical day will include planning and providing relevant fire service classes and maintaining the equipment necessary for that level of training, as well as, providing technical assistance to local fire service agencies. Incumbent will work in a team based environment and working with other staff members to accomplish assigned tasks.

An Associate degree or the equivalent from an accredited institution in Fire Science Technology or a closely related field;
AND
Three years of fire prevention or suppression experience, one year of which was in a capacity as a trainer or instructor.
Substitution:
Additional fire prevention or suppression experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Special Note:
Certification as a fire service instructor is desirable.
