Your Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individual for an Environmental Project Manager – Utilities & Renewables position within our Wisconsin Environmental Services team. The location of this position is flexible, and candidates will be able to work out of Stantec’s Green Bay, Madison or Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Columbus, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois, St, Louis, Missouri or Kansas City, Kansas office locations. We are looking for a passionate individual ready to assist our project teams with the management and implementation of electric utility and utility scale renewable energy projects (solar and wind). Ideal candidates will have 5 to 10 years of experience managing environmental projects. Specifically, tasks will include the management and implementation of Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) / Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW), natural resource and engineering field surveys, electrical and renewable energy routing and siting, and Certificate of Authority (CA) and Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) application development. Work with existing electrical transmission utilities and renewable energy developers in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan a plus. This is a full-time (40-hour work week) position.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and project management on a wide variety of electric utility and renewables projects.
  • Assist with sustaining and growing regional and national clients with a focus on electric utilities and renewable energy.
  • Within the Midwest, identify electric transmission and renewable energy environmental permitting projects, programs and opportunities while leveraging Stantec relationships for environmental services with existing federal, state, and private sector clients.
  • Assist with building, growing, and developing a team of high performers, recruit and retain specialist staff within the practice.
  • Develop in-house sector expertise, best practices, and research and development initiatives.
  • Actively participate in regional and national industry groups to advance the Stantec brand within the US energy and environmental services sector.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Demonstrated experience with various Midwest state agencies and federal agencies including state Departments of Natural Resources, state Public Service Commissions, US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Wisconsin Department of Transportation and US Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Experience in management and implementation of complex electric utility and renewable energy projects in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to prioritize and balance sometimes heavy workloads to achieve goals while keeping up with a highly mobile and changing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with performing or managing staff performing wetland and stream delineation and assessments, vegetation inventories, wildlife surveys and habitat assessments, sound and glare modeling, endangered resource reviews, vegetation management plan development, GPS data collection and mapping support (including ArcGIS online mapping and date collection applications).
  • Experience with preparation of PSCW applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others, manage large utility scale projects and market existing and new clients.
  • Experience balancing and organizing multiple projects, reviewing, and documenting project progress, developing communication plans, and reviewing and updating scope and progress for projects.
  • Ability to validate and accurately analyze information and make sound decisions that have considerable business impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, management, and vendors to successfully meet shifting needs.
  • Ability to motivate self and others to overcome obstacles and achieve goals.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, and be client focused to understand and appropriately respond to client’s business needs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of GIS and Sharepoint filing systems a plus.
  • Must demonstrate effective resource planning, results delivery, and staying current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Strong ethics, influence & negotiation, leadership, ability to effectively manage stress, and engage in continuous learning.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or natural resource related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Five or more years of experience in electric transmission and/or utility scale renewable energy project management, routing and siting, and/or CA/CPCN application development.
