Stanley Consultants is Hiring a Principal Transportation Engineer / Project Manager Near Austin, TX

Description

We are currently seeking a Project Manager for our Austin, Texas office. The successful candidate will be well versed in transportation design and possess project management experience with the Texas Department of Transportation and / or local governments. This individual will provide engineering and project management expertise on highway projects including roadway studies and design, drainage and utility systems, preliminary and final design, preparation of construction documents, cost estimates, project scheduling, and overall project management of large, complex highway corridors. This position requires project management experience with State DOTs (Texas Department of Transportation required) including, local projects with emphasis on preliminary design, final design, bidding, and letting procedures. Must be able to work effectively and communicate regularly with DOT and municipal clients; federal, state, and local agencies. Prior experience with a consulting engineering organization and a proven track record of successful transportation project development and design is necessary. This position offers exciting challenges and opportunities to develop the Texas program while managing all activities related to project scope, schedule, cost, quality, communications, and resources; mentoring young staff engineers, assisting in transportation market business development and participating in professional organizations and technical committees.

In this position you are responsible for building a valuable client, contractor, and sub consultant network through project work, personal visits and active participation in client focused organizations and industry related events. You will manage projects and lead targeted pursuits and collaborate on project opportunities. You are team-focused, collaborative, and motivated to build Stanley Consultants' transportation portfolio for roadway design and construction services and the transportation growth objectives of the company. Previous experience in developing, delivering, and managing highway design projects for state DOTs and 15 years of professional experience on transportation projects is required, as well as the desire to grow personally and professionally with each client service/project management engagement.

Essential Duties include:

  • Leads, directs, and mentors project team design staff.
  • Assists in staffing requirements and makes recommendations for hiring staff.
  • Evaluates client needs and identifies requirements.
  • Assists in the development of marketing strategies for transportation project opportunities.
  • Attends on-site and off-site client meetings.
  • Adheres to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual.
  • Participates in project scoping, fee estimating and proposal preparation, interviews, and negotiations.
  • Reviews department project(s) after award to collaborate on work procedures/sequences and developing schedules, budgets, staffing, sub consultant involvement, and progress billings.
  • Forms a project team and sees that responsibilities are assigned and the execution of tasks are begun and completed according to schedule.
  • Prepares and modifies reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, environmental studies, and designs for projects.
  • Evaluates need for design changes and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Submits documents to federal, state, and local agencies for code compliance review and obtains permits when required.
  • Serves as Project Manager on projects.
  • Meets with client management as necessary during the term of a project to resolve issues and to obtain approvals at the project's completion.

Background Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
  • Possess a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; 5 years of experience as a Project Manager on large or complex highway projects.
  • Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Must have experience with TxDOT design methods, plan preparation, standards and specifications or similar State DOT experience.
  • Established relationships with key clients.
  • Demonstrated capabilities and success in managing medium to large multi-disciplined projects, multi-office projects, and/or multiple projects.
  • Proven leadership, communication, mentoring and client liaison skills
  • Working knowledge of roadway design software's used to prepare engineering and design documents would be a plus.
  • Experienced in and fully capable of using the Microsoft software suite including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Experienced in preparing technical approaches and work plans (write ups) to support RFQ's and technical proposals.
  • Business acumen including negotiation skills.
