Standing Rock Sioux Tribe is Hiring a Shelter Assistant/Office of Violence Against Near Fort Yates, ND

POSITION TITLE: Shelter Assistant/Office of Violence Against Women (OVW)

SRST Sacred Plume Women’s Shelter (Tribal Court)

SCOPE OF POSITION: The OVW Shelter Assistant will assist and provide support of the oversight of the OVW Women’s Shelter and to ensure the health and safety of the Women and their children seeking shelter in the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s Office of Violence Against (OVW) Women’s Shelter.

SUPERVISION: The OVW Shelter Assistant will be under the supervision of the OVW Shelter Manager, who will provide direction, guidance and conduct performance evaluations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct supervision, monitoring and provide support services to residents in a shelter environment.
  • Assist Shelter Manager and other professional staff in carrying out goals and objectives of services.
  • Provide enforcement OVW Women’s Shelter policies and ensure adherence to established health and safety procedures.
  • Provide response to reasonable requests from residents in accordance with policy.
  • Prepare and provide reports of pertinent information to Shelter Manager.
  • Collaborate with Shelter Manager and AARC staff to ensure shelter is adequately staffed and to coordinate client transportation.
  • Actively participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings and required in-service trainings with Shelter Manager and AARC staff
  • Assist with intake procedures as required.
  • Maintain written and verbal communication with professional staff in pertaining to resident activities.
  • Facilitate appropriate crisis intervention procedures and provide mediation between residents when situations arise.
  • Coordinate resident childcare services as needed.
  • Ensure a sanitary and orderly shelter is maintained.
  • Maintain schedule and provide on-call duties as assigned by the Shelter Manager.
  • Provide other shelter related task within the scope of work and in support of OVW Shelter Operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate with one (1) year experience working in a social or human service related field.
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, EXCEL) programs.
  • Proficient in carrying out general office duties such as; filing, typing, with efficiency in office equipment (copy, fax, printers, and telephone) operation.
  • Ability to understand and carry out both verbal and written instructions and request clarification when needed.
  • Organization and coordination skills and ability to work in situations with diverse demands.
  • Valid driver’s license and meet insurability requirements.
  • Pass appropriate background checks; never have been found guilty of a crime against persons or children, Must never have been convicted of any crime against persons; including Domestic or Sexual Violence, as an adult, never been convicted of a felony, by any Court

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrate understanding of the OVW Women’s Shelter policy and procedures.
  • Ability to provide effective crisis intervention procedures according to protocols; demonstrate conflict resolution skills and techniques.
  • Demonstrate effective knowledge of the health and safety procedures; will be encouraged to become fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 Virus and participate in periodic COVID-19 Testing.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with programs, agencies and the public.
  • Meet regularly with Shelter Manager and AARC staff and participate in staff meetings and in-service training as required.
  • Ability to Work eight (8) hour shifts during a 24 Hour Period and assist in emergency situations, beyond the standard tour of duty, after hours and weekends.
  • Sign a program confidentiality statement with understanding of the penalties for any violations as it pertains to resident and program information.
  • Demonstrate the ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and react resourcefully under varying conditions.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity, respect and support in crisis situations.
  • Meet physical requirements to carry out demands of maintaining a sanitary and safe shelter environment.

No tribal housing is available. Position is located in Fort Yates, North Dakota.
